any tips on getting rid of these? we use Ecover at 30 degree wash - do we need pre-soak, does lemonjuice or white vinegar deal with it..?

the only thing I've found that works is a spray with febreeze/neutradol or similar and then rewash.

Do ecover do an environmentally friendly odour neautraliser?

avenanap · 03/10/2008 14:49

I would use a biologial detergent, the pong is made by bacteria.

Solubil (sp? brain death today) asprin is good at getting rid of yellow stains.

Ooh, Ooh Avenanap. Soluable aspirin on yelow stains. How does it work. Have asked on Mn before about this and nothinghas worked. Have DS work shirts and v old white tshirts that are an issue too. How much aspirin and how much water and how do you put it on. Soak it, dab it etc etc. Pleae advise. V, v, sadly, excited by this!

SmugColditz · 03/10/2008 17:42

You need to use a stonger detergent at a hotter setting they smell because they arent clean

glitterchick · 03/10/2008 17:51

Spray with Ace before you wash. Absolutely works perfectly.

avenanap · 03/10/2008 20:46

They have to be recient stains, you just pop a couple in with the soap powder. They do smell odd when they have finished washing them so I run them through again. I've tried everything on older stains, dirt devil, vanish but I can't budge them. I should try bleach.

The trick is to wash them or soak them as soon as you can so the bacteria doesn't have time to soak in. You need a hot wash, as smug says, with a biologial detergent. The stains are caused by the bacteria under hubbys arms feeding off the sweat so this is your best bet. Try 2 solubile asprin on anything not too old. If this doesn't work try ace (which is bleach).

Try soaking in soda crystals and hot water and then washing on a 60 wash in normal powder.

Soda crystals are dirt cheap and fab! You can get them from supermarkets or wilkos type places, about 60p a bag.

avenanap · 03/10/2008 21:11

Ohh, I have some of those, I have not tried them yet.

terramum · 03/10/2008 21:18

Have you tried changing deodorant? Our clothes stopped having problems underarms when DH & I stopped using deodorant. DH has recently started using it again and the stains & bad smells are back on his clothes.

Fadge · 03/10/2008 21:23

My DD gets this a lot and despite wearing anti persp deo. I don't use bio washing powder due to our bad skin but will try the aspririn, soda crystals and ace out. Thought all her tops were beyond hope, I keep chucking them

Mercy · 03/10/2008 21:25

Another cause is not letting your deodorant dry long enough beofre putting your clothes on.

Won't apply to male partners but i have noticed this more since starting the menopause - my sweat ain't so sweet.

Mercy · 03/10/2008 21:27

There you go fadge - it's hormone related in my and your dd's case (opposite ends of the scale though)

MmeLindt · 03/10/2008 21:27

There was a thread on this before and a few posters recommended Napisan.

I have not tried it yet though, as I cannot get Napisan over here.

Fadge · 03/10/2008 21:30

Mercy, I find it's not half so bad when she uses a roll on, but she's a contrary bugger fussy madam and prefers sprays it has a meat pie smell sorry bit tmi there!

Fadge · 03/10/2008 21:31

^^ the pongy patches I mean, not the deo spray, shouldn't imagine that would be a good fragrance choice!!

bumbling · 03/10/2008 22:29

So, so useful. Already use Bio washing powder and do hot washes, so off to buy aspirin and ace in the am. Hooray.
