Go by the energy rating rather than brand.

DO NOT BUY HOTPOINT.

I can never say this too many times.

Two fridges in two years, one a replacement, both broken within 6 months, and kept being fixed, then would break, then fixed, then would break, until I would pull my hair out and shout down the phone at the incompetent customer service advisors as my kitchen smelled of rotten food and we lived out of cool bags with a baby, for the millionth time.

They have no sympathy and the only way I got the first one replaced was by going through Coop where I bought it, and they sorted it for me.

This second one has broken twice, and so far I have not the energy to fight for a new one. But WHEN it breaks again, I will be getting a different one, and sue them for some of the money back.

And also, sorry Coop Electrical were very competitive price wise online, and their customer service was ace when I needed to use them.

We have bought a few things from them online.

I wouldn't get another Bosch. Had ours just over 2 years and 2 shelves and both salad drawers have broken (totally cracked) and the seal has gone.

I'd buy from JL online, but get one with a 5yr warranty.

MIL had a zanussi for about 5 years, then gave it to us & we had it for 2. It only broke because the kitchen flooded & according to repair man wouldn't have been a good idea to fix it. Otherwise it would have been into it's 8th year & still going strong.

Price wise, find somewhere that price matches & offers a % back as well or that 'buys' old appliances by taking some money off the price of new ones. We got £30 off new cooker by 'selling' old one (also knackered in flood) to Currys

We have a Daewoo. Went or the cheapest we could get that they had in stock for delivery that day (our old one was broken when we moved house).
Now I'd actually choose the cheapest Triple A rated one we could get. It's the only applicance we have that's on all the time, so would be money well spent I feel. We've had our current one 5 1/2 years.
