And are you pleased with your choice?

There are so many about I can't make up my mind

Not hugely recently, but in the last year... We've got a Bosch, they are reliable (have Bosch dishwasher) and was in the right price range for us.

wontbepreggersagain · 25/09/2008 13:24

bought a hotpoint ultima and LOVE it- almost silent

TheMadHouse · 25/09/2008 13:24

LG direct drive 8kg on recomendation of local firm which repairs and sells domestic appliances.

Had a Bosch for 12 years, but could not be economically fixed, this was what he recomended. Matched internet price, offered 6 month interest free, fitted free and removed old one free all within 2 days.

He recomended it as it is very quite (washer is in the kitchen), large drum (takes duvets) great for accidents and potty training.

I have had it 11 months and am really pleased with it.

zippitippitoes · 25/09/2008 13:24

i have bought two bekos and pleased with both

cheap and excellent spin

easy to adjust

not very quick tho but that doesnt matter to me

zippitippitoes · 25/09/2008 13:25

they are just over a year old

justneedsomesleep · 25/09/2008 14:14

bought new indesit one last thursday as our old one (same make) finally gave up the ghost after 7 years. The door fell off (i was having to scrwe it back on every time I did a wash) and making clunking noises among other things...

The new one is simply a washing machine, we had a washer dryer before (they delivered the wrong thing, but we didn't care as we got the better deal and they never noticed!)

Working fine so far - has to contend with a 1 and 2 year old's laundry too this time, so here's hoping it'll last as long (or am i wishful thinking?)

No problem in recommending it - bought from John Lewis, think it was about £209 and they took the old one away.

pooka · 25/09/2008 14:16

Miele. Love it. Expensive, but am so fed up with washing machines breaking on me that was tempted by the 10yr guarantee.
Have had 2 LGs that have been problemmatic.

callmeovercautious · 25/09/2008 15:03

Thanks everyone!

Zippi - why do you have 2? I didn't know you had that many DC

I am more confusded now then every though

Our last one lasted 12 years - no problems ever - may be a world record

The madhouse - do you put a kingsize duvet in yours? I really want one that I can wash our duvet in.

OP posts:
TheMadHouse · 25/09/2008 16:13

Yes I have washed our 4tog kingsize in it

Idobelieveinfairies · 25/09/2008 16:18

i have the hotpoint aqueous-cause i liked the advert.....and its a bonus that it is excellent with a child lock too!

cookinmama · 25/09/2008 16:23

just bought a john lewis machine as they are actually AEG which is really good make. I love it and you can hardly hear it unless it's on spin

dweezle · 25/09/2008 17:16

Huge Whirlpool toploader, takes 9kg and can take king duvet. Has very quick wash and like most American washers does not heat water so hooks up to hot water tap and is therefore cheaper to run (and can also do totally cold was as necessary. Does not fit underneath workbench though.

zippitippitoes · 25/09/2008 17:19

i have two because i built a little house in my backyard which my dd1 and her bf are living in

callmeovercautious · 25/09/2008 20:29

I am a nosey old -cow- thing aren't I?

Which says the indesit wib111 is a good deal and quite cheap. Anyone got one?

Sputnik · 25/09/2008 20:52

We got an Indesit something or other. It was the cheapest and had all the features I wanted.

It arrives tomorrow, with any luck, so not tested yet.

So do people think 7 years is a reasonable lifespan for a washing machine? I would hope for longer but is that unrealistic these days (last one died after 5/6 years and I was annoyed)?

southeastastra · 25/09/2008 20:54

got an indesit too as it was cheap and could be delivered the next day. i'm so impatient.

so far it's been great though don't imagine it will last that long

TooTiredToday · 26/09/2008 06:39

John Lewis - big capacity and 5 (yes FIVE) year guarantee. That plus digital countdown were only things on my wish list. Fits double duvet but we don't have kingsize so haven't tried.
Have had Hotpoint and Hoover but both worn out within 3 years due to hard water and constant use.

Pushpinia · 26/09/2008 07:00

I love Miele. My fridge is Miele. I would save it in a fire

My washing machine is Hoover and has plodded on for the last 4 years, nothing wrong with it - it's a 6kg. oh except the writing came off the control panel because it got wet, apparently you're not meant to touch it with wet hands.

It's in the cellar atm as we moved and this place already had one, which surprisingly packed up the other day after we'd been here 2 months. The electrics went all funny and it wouldn't do what it was told. It held my washing hostage at one point. It was a 'Taurus' which I've never heard of.

2sugars · 26/09/2008 07:09

Bosch, because it tells me how many minutes I've left before it's ready, which is really useful if you've got another load to go in and can wait. And it's good. And it's got a 15 minute wash, which works perfectly well for all but the grubbiest white jeans.

I have got an ISE 5 becuase of 5 year guarantee and claims of it being "future proof". So far so good, it's lovely and quiet as well.

Was very close to getting a Bosch but child lock was essential and they don't have them any more.

AccidentalMum · 28/09/2008 23:27

See www.washerhelp.co.uk....I got completely sucked in and took his advice relevant to my budget...went for £379 John Lewis own brand one, so big, so quiet, rinses beautifully...wonderful!

ShinyPinkShoes · 28/09/2008 23:28

I bought an AEG as my last one which I passed on to a friend is still going strong after 8 years

ludaloo · 29/09/2008 08:13

I can recommend what NOT to buy if that is any help!

Don't buy a Servis....18 months and it died.
Then bought a Whirlpool...also died.
Just bought an Indesit (second hand) and it has died too.

DeJaVous · 29/09/2008 08:16

Miele - because they are fantastic and last forever
