I am making a white chocolate cheesecake and the methos says wrap a double layer of foil and some clingfilm around the base of the tin to make it water tight. Won't the cling film melt?

Erm, actually cling can cope with hot steam in a microwave.... I was about to reply with a "yes, of course it melts" but now I'm not so sure! Maybe it'll work if its not in contact with metal or something?

Oooo - good question! Let us know how you get on.

Sounds a bit scary... maybe put it on top of an old baking tray in case it does melt?

Hot steam is only 100 degrees, your oven will be more like 160 for a cake I expect.

I wouldn't put cling film in the oven

No - I wouldn't put it in teh oven it will melt into your cake. Use foil - thats waterproof isn't it?

I have done 1 and a bit layer of foil, it is on a tray along with some boiling water and some of the cheesecake mixture has leaked out. Hoping it won't do so again. It is only in at 140 for 1 hour.

Just put another layer of foil around.

It had better be delicious as I have smashed my two glass bowls making this!

I have just been told by a specisalist cake store that they use microwave safe cling film to line all their cakes in the oven - I ma going to try it soon myself!

Hope the cheesecake was worth it!
