Is it OK to NOT have a toilet brush in your bathroom?

I've got a toddler who delights in bringing me a dripping toilet brush several times a day, wherever I am in the house and whatever I'm doing. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a toilet brush phobic which doesn't help, but I'm considering putting it away so it can only be used to clean the toilet, and isn't available for "casual users". Is that OK or not?

we have them.
have convinced the dc not to touch them, and i certainly dont! fucking gross. if we dont have a (well paid)cleaner to do that, then dp does. ive cleaned a toilet about 3 times in my whole life [strangely relieved]

Oh, yes, I'm sure I should be putting some grotty brush down the pan with bicarb and using my bare hands on it.

Well, I don't see the point when the scientists at Toilet Duck and Parazone have made it unecessary .

But surely if you use said brush with bleach, then the germs are killed? I have to admit to having one but it's a cheapo Tesco one which I replace every few months, and I always use it with bleach.

Hate it when DH uses it, as he never lifts the seat and doesn't use toilet cleaner with it... so perhaps I should chuck it out too...

DS1 doesn't go near it, but DS2 is on the move and loves to put everything in his gob, so better be wary...

FourArms · 24/09/2008 20:44

DS1 touched ours once, but touch wood DS2 never has. I change ours once in a while to another cheapo version from Tesco. I use it daily though (usually to clean the already visibly clean loo), so I don't think it's particularly dirty, and using anything else would be terrible for the environment since I use it so often.

I'd be mortified to not be able to use one at somebody elses house if it was required.

I believe we have a Phillipe Starck loo brush (Johnny Lulus would deffo deliver that wrapped). The staff use it and it's kept in a cupboard somewhere. Designer or not, who'd want to look at it?

lol duchess, it almost sounds as if you only have one loo !

Remotew · 24/09/2008 20:51

I've got one but am going to chuck it. Only use it with bleach so hopefully nothing too nasty on it. Stopped at SIL and she had this weired thing couldn't work it out but it was a toilet duck wipe grabber. Will get one soon.

teddycat · 24/09/2008 21:39

they are the most disgusting things in the world, i put on my rubber gloves, scrub then half a bottle of bleach

gigglewitch · 24/09/2008 21:42

we had one but had to evict it due to misuse by toddlers. Silly me reinstated [new] one a couple of months ago and found dc3 (age2) brushing her hair with it Bleurgh.
Needless to say we are once again a bog-brush-free residence

tyres · 24/09/2008 21:45

I have an Alessi bog brush, given to me many moons ago by a would be admirer. It was nice to look at when I got it, but is now dipped in bleached shit and only used by dp.
