Okay, so having read the "Does a dishwasher change your life" thread, I am now convinced!

Could anybody recommend a specific one please? Are they easy to fit? We already have the pipes for one, from the previous houseowner.

Cheers!

Thanks all. This is really helpful.

Re: fittings - we have two pipes already in place; one of them has a red tap and one of them has a blue tap on. Does that mean we just screw the dishwasher on to said pipes?

don't buy from devil spawn comet please
Worth considering john
Lewis too
We have one of their new ones and love it
We have miele washing machine and it and service is fab as well as the machine itself.
Engineers say Bosch or miele mind you

ClosedForCleaning · 14/09/2008 21:12

Oh, I've been wondering about the John Lewis own branded ones. Is yours fullsize or slimline?

cece · 14/09/2008 21:12

we have a Bosch and would recommend it.

I would also recommend buying from kitchenscience.co.uk

whomovedmychocolate · 14/09/2008 21:12

Comet are absolute shit when things go wrong - mostly they cause the things that go wrong - like delivering broken machines or forgetting to deliver.

WingsofaAngel · 14/09/2008 21:22

Yes you screw the seating tap onto the cold tap (blue). With this fitting there is no need to turn the water off while you fit it. HTH

amidaiwish · 14/09/2008 21:39

have a good think about that top cutlery tray if you're considering a miele.
my parents have one and it drives me insane, lining up all the flipping cutlery. i much prefer just lobbing it all in the basket, gets just as clean.

Piffle · 14/09/2008 21:48

full size lovely new stainless steel finish
They also do incredibly gorgeous drawers dishwasher with hush fingerprint resistant brushed steel finish
I wanted it but budget would not allow
Regret it now only £100 more

Sidge · 14/09/2008 21:54

We recently bought this one from John Lewis on the basis of the Which report and it's fab. Really pleased with it, and free delivery and 3 year warranty too. (but it has gone up £50 since we bought ours)

You don't need a plumber to fit them if you have the existing pipework; mine took me about 45 seconds to fit! Plug it in, cold water fill pipe from back of dishwasher to blue tap (remember to turn it to open) then attach the drain pipe from the dishwasher to the drain pipe which is usually behind your sink (it may be a short pipe branching off from the sink drainage pipe). Easy peasy.

we have the jldws1208 with 5yr guarantee
Sorry drawers one £300 more
Typo eeks

janeite · 15/09/2008 19:20

Thanks again everybody. Think we're going to go with a Bosch.

Miele are great I agree and v long warranty
Much quieter than Bosch too if that is an issue for you

janeite · 15/09/2008 21:09

Arghhh - see, now I need to think again!

Bosch, never anything dirty when the cycle is finished.

ClosedForCleaning · 19/09/2008 17:05

Yooohooo?

Anyone around still with the John Lewis? I'm wondering how much you're enjoying your 'active drying system'? The choice is between that, or a Bosch with child-lock.

So, who get's it... ditch the teatowels or the toddler?

Sidge · 19/09/2008 21:22

I have the John Lewis one - dunno about an 'active drying system' but I don't have to dry anything when it comes out (except my saucepan handles that have a sort of notch in them!)

No child lock but then I put mine on overnight.

I like my JL one.

notsoteenagemum · 19/09/2008 21:37

I've got a lovely hotpoint one and find their customer service really good (not comets where we got it from)

KristinaM · 19/09/2008 21:43

if you eat in your kitchen you will want to check how loud it is

IIRC 41dB is quiet. dB are a logerithmic scale

spudcounter · 22/09/2008 10:39

we've had a miele for the past 3 weeks and it's fantastically quiet. It also cleans well (tho things can't be too dirty on quickwash)..cutlery drawer might have been once novelty value wears off emptying it
