Not at all Giraffe!
After an accidental boil wash incident a few years ago, I turned into a colour wash fanatic.
Its only late on in my pg last year and dh took over the household stuff, and he just threw it all in the machine.

I couldnt figure out how he got through the washing so quick.
I guess its a bit more eco friendly too.

I have also started to use Vanish Oxi powder in my draw along with my usual detergent. Half a scoop and it gets rid of any nasty stains.
It even brings out ds2's babygros whiter than white

I should point out that I did this at my SIL's a few weeks ago, on a 40 wash and the colours ran very badly.
Lord knows why.
My MIL saved them with a concoction of her washing machine, Vanish, washing powder and bleach!

She is my washing guru.

Piffle, bicarb of soda will get rid of the sick smell.

Although IME, you can smell the sick for longer but if someone came into the house they wouldn't.

Bags to School take bedding as well so you should ask the PTA at school when the next one is.

It does make you feel good as it means you are raising money for the school with your old garbage bedding!

Piffle · 14/09/2008 16:24

have bagged up clothes bedding towels and popped in loft ready for next school collection.
Today have done so much my back has just gone PING so am sitting now.
Bloody arse is most work is behind scenes so efforts not immediately apparent. But have sent toys to new places. Living room and understairs lots less clutterd. Have told dd that a 5 min floor tidy before bed every night earns her 15p a day for weekend treat or saving.
Also cleaned windows cleared out tat. Washed coats and have freecycled stuff
Am on mission to eBay several prams and parts, tons of gorgeous outgrown clothes and shoes.

We are having new kitchen in November so that will help as kitchen v short of storage.

Am ok with post/filing/school bags/lunches etc
Thing is I had such severe SPD when preg with ds2 and for 14 mths post natally (only recovered in last few months). So fell behind on things like dusty skirtings, ceiling cobwebs and dusty doors.

I will try harder.
And fit in daily 2 mile walk ;)

i cannot believe the mixing whites and coloured works

we have a laundrey shoot i our kitchen which is fab for chucking stuff down and just grab later when you are down there

toy culls are essential and also the hiding of stuff re motivates play when it re-emerges

linen cupboard needs to be ordered - easy to grab - strip beds and get older dc's to make their own

we have never found that vanish oxy to work

Piffle · 14/09/2008 20:28

I do so much washing no issue separating
Love oxi vanish tis fab!!!
Toy cull under way
Dp did mega ironing load while I oiled the garden furniture ready for storage.
Lawns too damp to mow

Feel better for all efforts today though back is stiff and sore OW

i know piffle

good housekeeping has a great feel good factor for me - does that make me sad

I used to love talking housekeeping with my lovely Nanny ( Grandma) who sadly has died

Will take your advice and try again with the vanish oxy

I have a brilliant tip that I found on mumsnet re.airing cupboard. Take everything out. Fold up the duvet covers and then slot into them the respective sheet and pillowcases. Means everything is always a set and you never have to dig around looking for the cases or a double sheet. Makes cupboard look very country livingish as everything in neat piles.

Nbg · 15/09/2008 15:15

OMG ggg, that is a brilliant tip!

I always end up losing or seperating the sheets and pillowcases and its a real PITA when it comes to changing the beds.

I'm off to do that now

I store dds and ds2s bedding and mine and dps bedding in our huge ikea wardrobes
It's just towels from dcades ago. Mothers always give you spare ones

I think this thread has inspired me to declutter.

I've done dd's bedroom today and come out with 4 bags full of stuff.
2 for the bin, 1 for charity and a bag full of summer clothes.

I've also done the bedlinen too.
A very very good tip.

Piffle · 16/09/2008 18:01

I've started righting things a soon as I see them out of place.
Domestic goddess friend does this do am copying her.
Never did linen cupboard though tomorrows job
Plus clean clear fridge Thursday
New leaf turned over!!

Well done Piffle!

Sorry for being a bit thick but why does she write things down when they are out of place?
Is it like if shes busy and then she will go back to it later?

I have cleaned out my food cupboards.
The shelves look white again and I threw out loads of passed sell buy date stuff
But one good thing is that it will make my next food shop easier

Piffle · 16/09/2008 19:14

righting as in correcting
Wipe up crumbs at once rather than thinking I'll Hoover later and forget
Actually it works!!

I heard my name. I came as soon as I could.

Goober · 16/09/2008 19:23

Every job has it's own special day. Yes I should get out more. Some days are quieter than others, deliberate mistake, so I do my baking and odd jobs.
I am organised because I have to be. DS1 is autistic and demands a strict routine.

Goober · 16/09/2008 19:27

Top tip. To assist cleaning the microwave put a bowl of water inside. Heat on full power for 3-4 mins. Until boiled and spilled over the turntable. Leave door closed, and leave wet and steamed up for 1/2 hour to losen the muck. Wipe out with a clean soapy cloth.
