Will a dishwasher transform my life?

Okay, I know it's not up there on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, but I spend more hours than I dare calculate fuming resentment at the kitchen sink. (Yes, I am spoiled, but that's another subject).

So, liberating, or just an expensive gadget that is sometimes handy?

Please.

LOL, After confusion on a recent thread concerning a DS (nintendo) being read as DS, I find myself giggling at "As soon as something is dirty, stick it in DW"

On a serious note, GET ONE! Especially if you entertain - it's brilliant to hide the dirty stuff and gives you more room for preparing the next course.

YES it will. GET ONE.

I also clean mine once a month. I got some granuals from my washing machine repairer. They are sachets that you can use in your dishwasher or washing machine. Put them in when empty and after the cycle your machine is sparkling. Gets rid of any gunge lurking in your pipes! Any fat deposits etc in your dishwasher can cause it to breakdown evey a very very small amount. I got 20 sachets for £18.00. I try to use them first day of the month so that I remember when I've done it.

Neicie I don't know but you may hve just given me some hope! it keeps filling up but not draining

undercovercat · 10/09/2008 13:40

whoops mine stopped working, would fill but not empty, and i read a thread on MN about if it gets wet underneath the DW it will not function, so i waited and waited, and about a month and a half later(im assumng when it had dried out) i tried it one day and it WORKED. As if it had never not worked.Still going strong now.

whoops · 10/09/2008 13:43

Thanks!
I hadn't used it for a couple of weeks and I tried it the other day which is when it started filling up but not draining which is more than it did when it first stopped working!

DaphneMoon · 10/09/2008 14:30

That's what mine was doing when it got blocked. If you put the cleaner through regularly it prevents that and keeps all the pipes and everything in good working order.

Gets all the shit fluff out of your washing machines too!

Niecie · 10/09/2008 15:11

Whoops - it does sound like a blockage to me. They are designed to stop working if they aren't draining properly. It really is worth getting somebody to have a look.

We inheritied our old one with the house, and that refused to drain sometimes too, so you had to tip it backwards to get rid of the water in the sump that didn't drain. That worked a few times until it got the point we were having to do it nearly every wash and we bought a new one.

I cooked a couple of slices of bacon in the microwave and put the dish in the dishwasher without scraping the fat off. I kid you not there was not a teaspoon of fat in that bowl but it blocked my dishwasher. That's why I clean it regularly now.

Yes life changing. Dh unpacks it first thing, I pack it throughout day (also known as hiding all the dirty pots in there) it goes on last thing at night so no dirty pots left out.

I do clean pans in the sink but only use a very small amount of water and use this water first to wipe down all worktops.

Shine my sink and then we go off to bed.

Mine is a bosch, never had a problem also had a bosch at my last house. I am a bosch girl.
