Does anyone have their dryer stacked on top of their washing machine?

I've seen people do this and searched a while back for a kit so that I could do it with mine. Unfortunately, I didn't buy the kit at the time and now I can't find one. I've just spent ages on eBay looking but no joy so I thought someone on here was bound to know!!!

yes we don't have a kit though ours are just plonked but they are in an alcove so nothing on wither side of them except wall

what is the kit for? can you not just set it on top.we had ours on top for ages until we decided to move it to the outhouse so we would use it less.(a sulte to the credit crunch and our humungous electric bill)

Might just put one on the other then. The kit had a tray-like bracket to seperate the two. I think the the edge of the tray-like thing was to stop the dryer falling off while the washer is spinning (vibrating?).

Does there need to be a gap between them for ventilation?

Mine is just plonked on top.

Have they been stacked for long? I'm worried about the dryer falling off! My washing machine has quite a fierce spin!

Although, I suppose if I check it after I use the washer it should be ok!

Mine have just been sat one on top of teh other for 5 years, never moved a inch

We used to - they had to be the same make to get a stacking kit for them. It was OK except that they are upstairs on a slopey old floor & used to rock around terribly!

Now we just have a shelf between & the dryer's on that - much better (also it doesn't matter what makes they are)

Dryers generally have wheels so it would be possible for them to fall off forwards if there was any movement.

yes but dh built a sturdy frame for it to sit on. wouldn't just put on top tbh

yep- had johnlewis ones that are designed to stack (not sure we had the kit) and never had any proibs

My dryer doesn't have wheels

I put a bit of carpet between the two to reduce the noise

mogs mine have been stacked for nearly 5 years and have never had a problem

my dryer has wheels at the back but they only work if you tip the dryer

We've got a quite thick worktop between ours. It's fine. Be careful with the pipes from the dryer, though. Ours got a bit caught up at the back when dh moved it up there.

Also be careful to shut the dryer door when you're kneeling down to load the washing machine [ouch emoticon]
