Anyone put a freezer on top of a tumble dryer? Is it wise?

We are getting a condenser tumble dryer. Never had a tumble and don't know anything about them....

I also need another freezer (I'm expecting twins). I am wondering if it would be ok to put the freezer on top of the tumble dryer as we don't really have enough room for both. Do tumbles get hot on top? Do they move about?

Tumble dryers can often go on top of the washing machine

Not sure about putting something on top of a dryer - would it be stable enough?

Already have tall fridge freezer. This is just a supplementary freezer as I like to cook a lot of meals in bulk and also buy in bulk and there is not the room in our usual freezer.

Condenser dryer will put out a lot of heat.

Freezer will have to work harder if it is near dryer and your electricity bill will go through the roof.

Frost free freezer in particular would really struggle and would likely ice up.

OK, thanks, that's a good idea. Not sure washing machine can move to the space we have as it is very far away from the water/ drain (more in the 'eating area').

can the supplementary freezer go in your garage?

I wouldn't put the freezer on top of the dryer as the heat from the TD will mean you're wasting money as the freezer tries to compensate for it.

The good thing about a condenser dryer is that it can go anywhere; doesn't need a vent out of a window or through a wall. We used to keep ours under the stairs and before that it was in the front porch of our old house.

I don't think it's a good idea - aside from it not being ideal to put a freezer near a hot item (like an oven or tumble drier) I think freezers and fridges don't like movement as their coolant is sensitive to it(it's why you'r supposed to leave them to stand a while without switching them onafter moving them). Now it might be OK as the td will only vibrate it rather than tip it over, but I've a hunch it wouldn't be that good for it so it could be more prone to breaking down.

Thanks for all advice...hmmmm...definitely don't want bigger bills! Will need to rethink the 'plan'...washing machine is next to oven so can't even move it and put freezer there either.

washer dryer not a great idea imo. If you want to do another load, you are stuck waiting till it's done the first and ones we have had in holiday rentals have taken three or four hours to finish. Not great with twin babies and a toddler I wouldn't have thought.

MM, can the tumble drier go in the corner of a bedroom? or dining room (not a great look I must admit ) or even the bathroom if you have the space?

Is there any way you could put a strong (insulated maybe?) shelf across the top of the freezer & stand the dryer on that? We have our dryer on a shelf above the washer.

Already got washing machine which is only 3 yrs old, so not gonna get a new one.

Fio, not panicking. Have not had enough room for ages (since we bought it really though it was the biggest freezer as part of a fridge. We can never have ice cream as there is just no room to keep it! I am a big fan of freezing stuff so need to cook every single day. With 3 kids need to start shopping bulk in Cosco and special offers and freezing milk etc. etc. so I am not constantly at the supermarket.

Thanks Lacka, we will find somewhere to put it...just not as easy as I'd hoped! We have a large dresser we could sell and use our smaller one, but will just involve a lot of re-jigging....arghhh.

Now, any recommendations on Tumble Dryers?

I've got a hotpoint condenser one which is used on average once a day, and it is now in it's sixth year and still going strong ...in spite of my tardiness with keeping the condenser plates clean

I have tumble dryer on top of freezer in utility room its fine, first freezer faulty and I checked with hotpoint man who looked at it he said as long as they are not touching and freezer well vented its fine, as a precaution I open a window when dryers on.

merry we have a worktop in between now but used to just have a bit of mdf.
