tumble dryers..essential for new baby..?

I am expecting a baby soon and my family are telling me i will need a tumble dryer and are offering to buy one for us.

however i am concerned about the energy price hikes to come and know dryers to be pretty heavy on energy usage and am wondering whether i can just cope with using the radiators as i have before.. Do babies create that much laundry..?

I had 3 DCs under 3yo, all in washable nappies, and we didn't need a tumble-dryer. But I do have an aga for 24-hour drying.

Now I have 4 DCs and I still don't want one - or a dishwasher.

Ignore them. We never had one, and we managed just fine.

much better not to have one, then you're not tempted to use it 'just to finish something off', 'just to soften this up', etc etc

Electric bills soon mount up - friend of mine has come to the conclusion that she just has to get rid of hers and go cold turkey, iyswim.

we lived in a flat with no outside space and used real nappies, and still didn't need one.

We have a small mini tumble dryer in our outhouse and despite using cloth nappies, we rarely use it...maybe twice a year if that.

I have 3 children and have never used a tumble dryer. (and we use washable nappies)
