Heard on the TV yesterday that apparently to have a bath these days, costs £1, whereas it used to be 50p. Is that really true? And how does it work out? Water-heating costs alone? Wear and tear on the plug? Don't get it.

I don't really believe the credit crunch is a direct problem for most people, it's inflation as a knock-on from rising energy prices that is going to catch people out big time -- tho' you could argue that's because they can't get easy credit any more.

Anyway, to OP

Loaf of bread: 75p (Lidl)
Litre of diesel: £1.32
1 kg new organic potatoes in Sainsbury: £1-£2.50
... out of the garden: close to zero!
1 kg of non-organic potatoes in 25 kg bag (what we usually buy): 35p
1 pint of milk (as part of 4pinter in Lidl): about 40p.
3 months oil: £180
Half-Dozen free-range eggs: £1 (DH buys from a workmate) or £1.25 (Lidl) or £1.55 (Sainsbury)

I don't buy the other things often enough to know about their prices. Crikey, reading other people's numbers makes me wonder if we should update the oil boiler, still not quite economical, I suspect.
