and it's still damp when night falls, do you take it in or leave it out (assuming you're not expecting rain)?

Blimey, Capp, you've got it all worked out. I need some housekeeping tips from you.

(Actually I need them from everyone. I am a bad slattern.)

is your washing out yet Iorek?

DiscoDizzy · 22/07/2008 11:02

I left mine out on one rare occasion and had new clothes i'd only worn onc,e pinched. So so annoying. I'd never leave them out again.

IorekByrnison · 22/07/2008 11:06

No,capp. But I've just heard the click click of the washing machine end-of-cycle, so will go and put a load out now. Any other tips?

you're late

it's ten past 11. It should have been out for hours by now

I take it in - was in a pikey test someone put on here years ago and I remember it and make sure I always take it in - gets damp more at night too so pointless leaving it out just bring in and place on clothes airers.

DustyTV · 22/07/2008 11:13

Iorek, it is low isn't it. Luckily I have plenty of terry squares, they took my little lambs

Disco, it really is horrible isn't it, I now only put washing out on the line if I am in the house and I keep the back door open so that the dogs can go in and out as they please. Not that they would do anything but I think it is a good deterrent for would be clothes thieves.

TigerFeet · 22/07/2008 11:20

I put my washing out lateish in the evening sometimes as I know I won't get up in time have time in the morning to peg it out.

Am I weird?

I do get bird poo on it sometimes.

IorekByrnison · 22/07/2008 11:24

Give me a break, capp, it's not even midday. Anyway, last night's washing is now in, this morning's is out, the fluff filter is emptied and the next load is on. I feel like Anthea fucking Turner.

I can't see why you would leave your washing out in the dark to get damp

bring it in

slovens

put it out earlier

put it on to wash before you go to bed

I see what you're saying, capp, but I would rather the washing was hanging free outside in the almost fresh air of South London than mouldering in the washing machine all night.

Booboobedoo · 22/07/2008 11:31

I once went out in the dark to get the washing in, and stepped in a fresh poo my dog had thoughtfully laid underneath the washing line.

So I leave it out (if it's dark).

TigerFeet · 22/07/2008 11:32

Yes it may well get damp but it's usually dry by mid morning the next day with no effort required on my part. There is then still plenty of time to get another lineful out to dry.

I've put stuff out to dry at 4pm before now and it's been bone dry by 7.

Eww to poo stepping incident. That is a serious disincentive. What do you think your dog was trying to tell you?

OP posts:
Tiggiwinkle · 22/07/2008 11:36

Mine stays out. And as others have said, I often hang it out in the evening and it gets a good start in the morning!

Booboobedoo · 22/07/2008 11:39

See, now I'm paranoid. If the dog placed the poo there on purpose, what is she trying to tell me?

Probably something along the lines of "don't go out in the garden with bare feet".

IorekByrnison · 22/07/2008 11:39

Sazzles, my mother never leaves hers out either, and she's not the world's greatest housekeeper. I think that's what has made me worry.

I'm thinking now that it's OK though, as long as there are no insects or thieves.

NomDePlume · 22/07/2008 11:41

I bring it in, just because you can never rely on the blardy weather or if it doesn't get rained on it gets shat on by the dawn chorus.

IorekByrnison · 22/07/2008 11:41

Maybe she just thought it would be a lovely surprise for you while you were doing your chores. There are not many gifts a dog can give...

take it in and hang it up, unless I'm confident it'll be warm and sunny the next day
