SirCharlie I don't count the draining board at night, because my plates etc.. are drying at night - don't have a DW either.
I just clean the sink and the taps at night and dry it with a microfibre cloth.
I usually put everything away when I get up and then clean the draining board when I do the sink in the morning, then have breakfast,
I suppose it depends when you eat your evening meal to a degree, I'm a late eater and DP often snacks after that, which could include making porridge followed by toast, so not much chance of getting everything done at one time.
I'm really getting into the whole flying thing, saving time and not making jobs too big and stuff. Just do what suits your lifestyle, it's about your household and your routines.

BiancaCastafiore · 15/07/2008 19:33

Had a very busy and productive day today

I've~
~cleaned and tidied the kitchen
~mopped and waxed the wooden floors
~hoovered throughout downstairs
~tidied dds wardrobe amd drawers
~been to the supermarket
~taken kids to the park
~cleared out the bathroom cupboard
~2x loads of washing

Feeling rather pleased and relieved to have managed to make some progress. I'll tackle upstairs tomorrow after sports day.

Does anyone have any judo trousers (or similar style in white/off white) in size 4-5 which they'd like to send me for ds to have as part of his Luke Slywalker outfit Where on MN to I ask for this type of thing? (hardly ever look elsewhere on here these days)

littlemissloopy · 15/07/2008 19:38

Lucysmam, you have the right idea with the beer and the chillin

How old is your Lucy? My Lucy is almost 3, my other two are nearly 7 and nearly 5 (all have b'days comming in the next couple of months)

BiancaCastafiore · 15/07/2008 19:40

thanks Loopy
fancy a quick hello on MSN?

LongtimeinBrussels · 15/07/2008 19:54

Hi BiancaCastafiore. That's my name on another site I use (a French forum). I tried to use it when I started on here but wasn't allowed. Now I know why! Are you from Belgium (Tintin being Belgian)?

Having read your post, I think you should change your name to SuperWoman! I had a list of things to do today pretty similar to yours but I only managed to do about half of them. (Am now off to try and finish the rest .)

BiancaCastafiore · 15/07/2008 20:00

Hello It is a great name so I can't be sorry for using it here before you could get it I'm not from Belgian, just a huge fan of Tintin and everything Herge

LongtimeinBrussels · 15/07/2008 20:04

This thread is great by the way - the links to that website are wonderful. I used to be really fussy about the house being clean and tidy until, I guess, my daughter got to an age when she started collecting clutter (toys etc). With three children it just seemed an impossible task to keep everything tidy despite my attempts to make them tidy up after themselves.

I spent most of today sorting out some of my daughter's toys and papers. I don't know where it all comes from as she doesn't really get that many birthday presents. She is, however, a great one for drawing and making things but then likes to keep everything she draws and makes !

I think you may all save my sanity...

littlemissloopy · 15/07/2008 20:07

Oh sorry Bianca...my nieghbour just came round wanting to borrow my deep fat fryer (very strange request I know....so rather than her take it next door, she cooked her dinner here!)

I have to put the kids to bed now....if DH doesn't come in and hog the comp (he's still at work) I'll log on

BiancaCastafiore · 15/07/2008 20:10

I have been finding it difficult to get on these threads lately (RL getting in the way) but find when I do manage to come on and get my act together the whole house/family benefit from it

Loopy no worries . Maybe catch you later x

lucysmam · 15/07/2008 20:42

sounds like you've been really busy madhouse!! i wouldn't know where to start most of the time.

littlemissloopy, my lucy is almost 18mo, she's just learned to walk all by herself this past couple of weeks which i'm very proud of, of course but she's gotten to be a monster now as she can get out of bed and unpack her wardrobe when she gets up at 5am leaving it all for me when i'm finally woken by her chatting to herself at the babygate!! she's also learned to climb stairs this week so got to invest in another gate for there now too.

my sink is now shiny and sparkly, even though we're having a beer, feels nice not to be stacked up with pots for the morning. just washing to bring in and put away in our room now then thats me for today

Jas · 15/07/2008 21:18

Evening all. I have tried to come back a couple of times today, but keep getting distracted.

I haven' done a great deal., as once I'd been to work and shopped, it was lunch time and I was shattered, then I rashly offereed to babysit for my friends sleeping ds, who woke up and started screaming two minutes after she left.

I had to get out and he was happy in the park. Then the dds invited the whole steet in to play

Ah well, at least I'm getting nice mum points for not saying no to everything.

Random replies to things I've read....

SirCharlie - shiny sink varies from sink, draner, work tops and entire kitchen sparkling, to just getting the washing up done.

I try to wash up and put away though, most nights (like some one else here, my dp comes in and makes late night snacks which don't help).

Lucysmam - I was thinking North, too.
My dad is a Geordie, and all the mums on his side are mam

Babyjj - what is a jumperoo? Can you use the loft for storage?....put all the winter stuff away for now. I wouldn't get rid of drawers tbh, even ugly ones. Could you paint the white? I'd probably use boxes and try and keep things neat with the ones at the top being the most used stuff.

DP is back and it is getting dark in here, so I think I'm going to try and get an early night.

DontNeedAnything · 15/07/2008 21:45

Grrrrr - anyone want 3DDs for tomorrow. They have been off school 2 days, DP is thte one that has been at home and somehow they are still doing my head in.

Weome to Brussels and Lucysmam. I am new here too so I don't eel qualified to welcome you properly - but hey, I can say Hi .

Anyway my list that I posted earlier...

1 Hotspot in kitchen (worktops I think) - Done - but teurned out to be moreof a 15minute declutter.
1 Hots post in kitchen (put out recycling() Done - actually Dp had done it, so I put the shopping in the garage instead.
Clear sink done
1 hotspot in conservatory - put away swimming kit done - and it is a good job I did as I found DTDs swimming renewal for next term still sittin gin bag - was due in 2 days ago

I didn't get the bathroom done though. My mum rang so spoke to her for 45 minutes about nothing much. Then I had to clean conservatory floor again after DD3 threw her dinner again.

Have just got DD3 to bed. DTDs are still arguing in their room. I have given up. Am just munching my tea, then clear DD3's toys and then I might just get time to play on PS2 for abit before DP gets in from footie. Not quite what I had planned for the evening.

rowingboat · 15/07/2008 21:57

Hi LittleMissLoopy
I think I must be into my third week of babysteps now. [faints]
Jas my DP does weightlifting and throws the hammer, discus and shot putt, so eats continuously.
He's a love though and made my dinner tonight. Now I have to wash up all the saucepans! Oh well!
This is quite a long post because I have been thinking about Flying for the past couple of days.
The fly lady techniques are starting to kick in now. I can see what she means about setting time limits and doing what you can in that time, rather than being put off doing things because you think you won't have time.
Today I cleaned my leather sofa, in about 10-15 minutes (naughty - no timer) just using my vinegar spray and an old terry nappy (clean ). Usually, I would get a big bucket of warm water with soap and a sponge, then rinse and rinse. The problem was I always think of cleaning the sofa as a really long job and that I have to make time. I'm so pleased I have cleaned both sofas and they feel nice and clean. I can easily do that once a week.
Still haven't progressed onto day 13, but will soon.
Did the main things today - hotspots, sink (I'm doing bathroom and kitchen as my morning/evening), dressed, 5 minute room rescue kitchen (can't do it in 5 minutes yet), swish and swipe bathroom and 15 minute declutter, plus cleaned the carpet in the worst area by the door with my spray in about 15 minutes - looks much better.
Other usual stuff two laundries hung and dry, because it was mega windy. 10 minutes to put away clothes, 10 minute vacuum sitting room.

Oo, and the 15 minute de-clutter is so cool. We have some bad cupboards of junk, but I have managed to break it down into shelves and do one in 15 minutes, rather than the whole thing. Much more manageable.

Burning question - How do you guys do your 15 minute declutter?

I think you are supposed to set the timer for 15 minutes and pull stuff out and put it into three piles, but after the timer goes off I still have stuff that I can't make a decision about. So that takes another half hour to sort. That can't be right can it?

Another burning question - how do your partners fit into the FLy lady routines?*
Do they know what you are doing and do you factor them into the routines?
My DP does cooking, washing up, the bins and whatever I tell him needs to be done, plus looks after our child when I go to work in the evenings and at weekends. Not sure if he would be very keen on flying, but he knows about it.

TheMadHouse · 15/07/2008 22:24

evening all

I am just double checking my tesco order.

I have had a mad night, but got loads done - nice chatting BC

Polished downstairs
Cleaned Leather couches in sintting room
Cleaned leather couch in conservatory
Wipes Kitchen tops
Dinner
Wiped the TV screens
Wipe the patio door white things on the floor i dont know what they are called (sills)
Watched bonekickers - for andrian Lester only as the programm is beyound pants

OK my take on fly, as I dont have loads of clutter, I dont need the boxes. I just tend to gather up all that is in the wrong place nad move it to the right place.

Saying that I went in the utensil drawer tonight in the kitchen as I needed a spatula and threw out everything I havenet used since we moved in 2 years ago (7 things). I kind of use that time for the room rescue. Just tailour it to suit you needs.

With regards to DH he has things that he does everynight and he is also aware that I fly and knows what the mourning and evening routine consists of, so if I am out of action at least the basics get done.

He doesnt do any of the missions or the zone cleaning, but he will do the washing etc - so I am happy, it means that there is not a lot of catching up.

Anyway essay over.

EV, Sag Hope you guys are OK

Jas · 15/07/2008 22:26

rowingboat - At least your dp has a reason....mine is just n really bad eating paterns

15 min declutter - Stuff I can't make a decision about goes back in until next time It does still all get sorted eventually.

Partner - Thinks FLYing is mad, but does appreciate the difference it has made.
He is much more house proud than me, but I am the SAH parent and end up actually doing most of it. He makes more effort to tidy up if the kitchen is tidy to start with iyswim, and is always more cheerful if he doesn't come home to food on the floor.

Left to his own devices he will clean something I never do ( like the kitchen ceiling, or tops of cupboards) and leave the washing up in the sink
