What do you do with your old teabags?

Oh, hang on. I know the answer to this. You've all got compost bins, haven't you? OK, there must be some of you that haven't I've tried all manner of things, tea bag bin, yogurt pots, plastic bowl and I always end up with a tea bag mountain. If we put them straight in the bin we get tea at the bottom.

So where do yours live?

squeeze excess liquid out before putting them straight in the bin

thisisyesterday · 05/07/2008 23:08

hmm well yes, I admit I was going to say compost lol.

before that we just put them straight in the bin though.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/07/2008 23:08

compost bin

happy to help

expatinscotland · 05/07/2008 23:09

kitchen composter

theinsider · 05/07/2008 23:09

My mum saves them and reuses them oohh at least ten times. Personally I chuck 'em straight down the waste-disposal.

EyeballsintheSky · 05/07/2008 23:12

Oh I forgot about the posh ones with the waste disposal

I squeeze them perfectly Amphibimum, but DH is a goon and considers them squeezed if he's removed them from the mug.

Scared of compost bins 'cos I'm scared of rats...

Dragonbutter · 05/07/2008 23:14

i don't drink tea

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/07/2008 23:14

rats don't want to eat old teabags or rotting vege any more than you do - they only come if you put cooked food or meat in the compost

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/07/2008 23:14

we have 2 big bins in the kitchen..
left one bin bag right one compost.

Dragonbutter · 05/07/2008 23:15

we once used them to paint my little brother a muddy colour when he was dressed as rambo.
does that help?

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/07/2008 23:15

slight hijack - bythepowerofgreyskull - that is the best name ever, I've been saying it a lot because of seeing it on mn...
tea bags go in my bin

EyeballsintheSky · 05/07/2008 23:16

Dragonbutter you win the award for the least helpful post but the best mental image!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 05/07/2008 23:16

compost.

tigana · 05/07/2008 23:17

I squeeze them well before extracting from cup. Then I put them in the kitchen bin which is lined with a bin bag (so any tea would be contained in teh bag anyway...if not absorbed by all the other stuff in there) I do feel guilt and regret at not yet having a compost bin as I do this.

milge · 05/07/2008 23:18

Waste disposal unit eats them all up for me.

Dragonbutter · 05/07/2008 23:19

my work here is done

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/07/2008 23:21

I can't believe the number of you who don't have compost ?

tigana · 05/07/2008 23:23

keep the faith norma....
I will have one, once a space has been cleared amongst the brambles, nettle and bindweed in our garden to allow one to be deposited there.
I have been saying this since we moved in a few months ago mind.. but I mean it!

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/07/2008 23:24

I can't be bothered to compost

toddlerhip · 05/07/2008 23:43

Don't feel bad tigana. We moved here 9 months ago and have only just got compost going - for the first time. Feels wierdly great though . And turning is very therapeutic!! And it's satisfyingly terrifying picking up worms (with gloves) from the garden, holding them at arms length and taking them to the compost bin. Am i selling this? And of course there's no tea nowadays in the bottom of the kitchen bin .

Amphibimum · 05/07/2008 23:47

norma, i have more compost than is even believable.

scanner · 05/07/2008 23:48

we keep a ramikin next to the kettle and put the teabags into it (saves tea drips on the way to the bin). When we get a mini tea bag moutain I transfer it into a compost bin.

Giraffescantdancethetango · 05/07/2008 23:50

i peg mine out on the washing line, wait till they have dried, put them in a box and reuse them for unwanted visitors...its great cos it puts them off coming back

EyeballsintheSky · 05/07/2008 23:54

LOL

You lot do realise that I now have to go and google compost bins, don't you?
