Opinions welcome!! We desperately need new furniture but haven't got a lot of money right now. Thanks to an incontinent cocker spaniel & 2 very messy dcs (& my reluctance to do housework I suppose) our current ones are a bit smelly & crusty in places.

Sofasofa are doing a sale at this page but I can't decide which ones to go for. Will probably want a 2seater & a couple of armchairs (or one armchair an existing rocking chair from dd's room).

Which ones do people like?? I'm a bit of a traditionalist so I like Albany & Banbury. For colour - again, traditional so am tempted to dark beige (if there is such a colour?), but am open to ideas. We have a no eating outside the kitchen rule, but drinks, fruit & chocolate seem to make it through the door somehow so anything that will hide those. So, over to you, lots & lots of opinions please!!

(and if you do help me, I'll even post pictures of what we're throwing away so you can go 'eewwww' and 'yuck' !!)

Go on, you know you want to.

Especially since while I was typing this dd (2.6) just went upstairs and did her very first poo on the toilet all on her own!! Perhaps if I ignore her again she'll do the cooking or the ironing? I've discovered a whole new parenting style!

Sorry but they all look pretty much the same to me.

I spent ages choosing our sofa from various similar-looking models.

Can you try them out?

We found quite a lot of differences when sitting on them re height and depth of seat. That was the decider for DH.

Also decide if you want to see underneath or not (cleaning issues). Ours has a skirt to the floor but this drags a bit now and hides toys (in a bad way).

I like the domino one at sofasofa.
I will say 2 things re sofa's if chocolate etc find their way into the living room (or children in generall really!)

  1. Removable, washable covers or
  2. Leather (wipe clean) but it does have to be good quality. We spent quite a lot on our leather suite, but it was worth it. It cleans up beautifully and is wearing in really well despite a lot of abuse. (not just the kids )

Thanks! Haventslept - size is definitely an issue - dp likes biiggg armchairs though our living room is quite small. Will look at the skirts as we do tend to find a lot of lost toys every time we vacuum.

piratecat - thanks for that link - I don't know if we can fit 2 settees but will keep an eye on argos sales stuff.

We had kirkdale ones years ago and the covers got filthy and after a couple of washed started coming apart!

Now we have Laura Ashley ones which look great and are hard wearing - they do have a discount store that has just opened at Lakeside with some great sofa and chair bargains in - there must be others around the country though.
