I got my husband to rehang an above counter kitchen cupboard door so that it now opens the ‘right’ way. The difference this has made to my life is not in proportion to the time it took him ( 10 mins) I’ve been in this house 7 years and it’s only just occurred to me that unloading the dishwasher would be so much easier if the opening was changed ….

I keep a toiletry bag of miniatures and another of make up, replenished when I return from a break, so I only have to think about clothes to take in future.

I'm another one who hangs clothes on hangers to dry in the Laundry Room. I've got a rail in there for the hangers to make them easy to access when I'm hanging stuff up. It's just a short length of broom handle, scerwed to the end of a wall cupboard. I can pick up an item, reach for a hanger from the rail without it tangling with all the others, and hang the item on the ceiling airer, all in one smooth process.

My top tip is to chuck stuff out you don't need, get kids to do chores and lower your standards, you don't need to live in a show home.

I also don't bother too clean floors that much, I mean nobody eats off the floor here...

🤣 very accurate!

I've started asking my children (5&7) to do one helpful thing for the family every day, usually as part of getting ready in the morning. It's been wonderful! The stuff they notice are often things which are on my bug bear list but I don't always get to. . . Or a regular chore like the dishwasher which is genuinely helpful.

It's also had the knock on effect that they're starting to notice other things around the house that needs doing and doing them before I asked. My brain feels so much lighter for sharing the load.

Definitely a winner

To be fair I had forgotten that in an upright cutlery holder they can 'spoon' and don't always clean as well. We've had the lay flat extra shelf style for so long now and it's second nature to always group them together.

Love this, low standards is my motto

I might be repeating as the thread is now too long to read through:
Never go upstairs or downstairs empty handed. I found it in a book over thirty years ago. Also put away whatever you’ve taken up or down, of course.

I have a small basket at the bottom the stairs and one at the top where I put things in that need to make the journey up or down.

I used to do this before the kids left home. They'd climb over it to get upstairs no-one ever made the connection that mummy had washed, dried, ironed and folded their clothes to be carried upstairs to their rooms.

I have a tick remover tied on a long string to the unit next to the sofa. I inevitably find ticks on the cat when she jumps up so now I can find the remover even if it’s fallen under something and the string is long enough that I can use it wherever on the sofa she is. Means I don’t have to risk jumping up and disturbing her or it getting lost somewhere.
