am decluttering - have huge boxes of uni work that i simply do not need and that no one would want.

am going to throw it all in the recycling in a minute.

have just made a huge pile. its all coming flooding back. my uni years werent happy ones - i was extreemly stressed etc so i dont want them for a sentimental value i just feel i should keep them "just in case"

Am going to keep some - eg my teaching placements as i am still attached to them. but i dont really NEED folders of work telling me how to write reports etc. Its mainly my first year stuff Im going to do today. I have my degree now so I know I have something for all the work but I just feel like I am binning all my hard work.

People who have decluttered reassure me please

Yes, I've had to chuck all my uni stuff out as well (admittedly I graduated in 1994 so perhaps this is to be expected!!). I kept a few of my final year essays in case I became a genius at Latin American literature and wanted some modest examples of my early work (I work in IT now but here's hoping!) but chucked the rest.

It has to go. It's done its job, which was to get you graduated.

I haven't de-cluttered but desperately need to. You have my admiration .

giraffescantdance · 29/06/2008 22:15

thanks.

oggs you should do it - i have needed to for years and to let go of some stuff has been hard but its like a huge weight off at same time.

i keep wandering in to the other room and looking at all the SPACE where the mountains of crap used to be - most of it was still packed up from when i had moved house.

i thought it would be really hard but i just got myself a comfy place to sit and got a recycling bag, a bin bag, a pile for keep stuff and a pile for sell/give away stuff. I put some music on and went through it faster than I ever imagined.

100% reccomend it

I'm a ruthless declutterer, but for some reason I can't face binning my uni notes either...I've still got my A level notes too. I haven't opened them since I've graduated though! I think it's the thought of all the hours I spent slaving away learning it all that's stopping me. And the thought that the day after I throw them away I will find myself in a life or death situtation, where I will only be able to save the lives of my family using my knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry.

yup cwtchy if i looked to closely at them i could almost FEEl the sweat and tears that really did go in to them. But Ive kept placement folders, assignments and the evaluations from my tutors for now. But all the actual notes etc - gone. Now its just one box instead of the 5 plus it was before.

Oh well done, you have inspired me! Bet it feels good.

I am moving house shortly - when the files emerge from the attic I know what to do..
