Tiny moths and tiny flies

We recently moved into a new (to us) house. It was a probate sale so had sat empty for about 8 months but it is a relatively modern house and didn’t need much updating. We have new carpets in every room, and we ripped out built in furniture.
We keep getting tiny moths and flies everywhere - any ideas what to do? I absolute hate moths so it’s driving me round the bend. We also have a baby so I can’t spray chemicals everywhere. The only room we haven’t touched to redecorate yet is the kitchen but it’s clean!

When did you move in?

we had at the end of summer last year a lot of tiny flies and I have no idea what they were. The look like fruit flies, round and floaty, invisible wings? They could be drain flies.

here’s what we did. Cleaned the drains with caustic soda and left the plug in at all times
got rid of fruit and any food on work top.

put my plants in the shed 😰
rinsed dishes or put them in the dishwasher as they attracted them.
Bought super ninja fruit fly traps from Amazon.

or they could be cluster flies if they are bigger. In which case you need a bomb. I have down that but it think we had clustered in an old house in the windows!!

You can also call a pest controller and they will advise

Have you got wool carpets? That's what clothes/carpet moths love. The only way to fully get rid is really to get synthetic carpet or flooring.

But you can use zero in carpet beetle and moth spray. You need to spray loads of it on the area where there are larvae. And leave it fir a day or so before putting stuff back. They love being underneath furniture close to the floor so if you have them badly there will be evidence under things like chests of drawers or wardrobes.

This - we had wool carpets for years without problems, and then one year they started eating patches of carpet. Managed to keep them under control with constant vacuuming - moving all furniture every week and cleaning every carpet every day. In the end, we got rid of the carpets, and the moths left too.
