Bought a Meile cordless vacuum to replace Shark

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone has any particular thoughts about vacuums.

I had a bit of traumatic event (not that bad actually, but bad for me) to go it and sent me into a cleaning frenzy (the two things are related). Anyway that was the catalyst.

I've just splashed out on a £340 Meile DuoFlex HX1 All floor cordless vacuum cleaner to replace our cordless shark we bought in 2021. Sorry don't have the model to hand. But it was one of those standards ones. Think it was between £200 - £250 at the time.

Do you think that sounds about right, in terms of it's lifespan? Like most people, I was impressed at first, but since then the quality of the engineering has declined a lot. I do hope that doesn't happen with this new one.

I'm going to have to sell it to DH too. He hates spending money so won't be happy! It was a unilateral decision I hope I won't regret. But he never cleans, he uses the shark for odd hoover jobs here and there. Never the the actual house clean which he doesn't get involved with.

We have had our pets Miele for 10 or more years. It’s brill. Our cleaner loves it too.

I have the Miele TriFlex HX2 its very good on all floors. Charges quickly and a charge lasts long enough for a daily quick hoover. I still use the cat & Dog corded cylinder with bags to do a really good clean, cob webs and under furniture. The TriFlex is fiddly to take a apart and the dust canister is very small.
Always had Miele, last cat and dog lasted 20 years, this one is over 10. Not sure if the cordless will last as long.

Thank you both!! I've just seen another recent thread on Miele vacuums, mainly cordless reviews, and everyone is super positive so feeling ok about it.

It's just everything is expensive these days so weighing up where to invest becomes even trickier.

Shark for us. Absolutely excellent products and we were very pro Dyson until we switched.

I know they are very much liked by a lot of people and are very innovative. Id be interested to know about their top of range offerings.

I'm going to keep the one we have and use it more as a dust buster really.

Oh sorry forgot to ask, what made you switch from Dyson to shark @Nutmuncher?

Never had a Dyson but was always impressed with their products.

The price and word of mouth recommendations from friends and family who had them. Absolute game changer. I was shocked at the difference because we were always team Dyson.

I’ve had shark ones for years, I’m on my third I think? The first was cordless stick. Didn’t realise they didn’t have the strength of a corded.
so I got a corded stick. I still felt there must be better ones out there.

I gave up on the stick and bought the massive Shark pet vacuum (and its carpet washer friend). They’re big, they’re heavier, but my god I wish I had done it sooner.

also, people forget to replace the filters regularly, and that can make all the difference.

So I won’t be surprised if your Miele is better than your cordless Shark, but I do think corded uprights do the best job

I have a corded shark lift away after a Miele cat and dog died - it was so old it couldn't be repaired, and tbh I love it more then the Miele - I prefer an upright

Ive also inherited mums cordless shark - and its shite in comparison . I use it as a five minute whizz around lifting pet hair of hard floors - it rarely can cope with more . If it picks up anything bigger then a crumb , Im having to take it apart to clear a blockage

I bought a Miele cat and dog and the engine burnt out after 18 months. I’ve given up on Miele - they’re rubbish nowadays.
