Questions about cleaning - is £60 for a max 2 hour clean reasonable?

Just a couple of questions for those who have a cleaner. We have a 3 bed 1.5 bathroom semi, in the midlands. How much would be reasonable to expect to pay for a clean of 2 hours? And would it be normal to expect e.g kettle, fruit bowl etc to be moved to clean behind/under, and for top of hob to be wiped over? We pay set fee of £60, once a fortnight. Per job, not per hour but she’s usually here 1hr 45 - 2 hrs, today she was here for 1hr 30 with a 10 minute break in there. Kitchen surfaces not fully cleaned, tiles behind hob dirty. ! When I was in a flat in London we paid £14 an hour and i feel like the job was more thorough. Not sure if my expectations are unrealistic and wanted some other opinions before addressing, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but thinking I might be being taken for a ride.

Thanks in advance.

We pay £30 for 2 hours, once a fortnight. Expensive southern city. I try to treat them very well as I know what a good deal it is and the clean is always great.

miffmufferedmoof · 18/06/2026 18:07

I pay £40 for 2 hours. Standard not perfect, but good enough

Oh wow, that is a great deal!

We pay £22p/h for a 3hr clean. 4-bed, two reception rooms, 2.5 bathrooms. It’s spotless.

Thanks for your replies, I think perhaps I need to look for a new cleaner.

You're cleaner sounds a bit shit.
I pay £20 and hour for 2 hours, she never leaves early and works like a trojan. I love her.

LovingLivingLife · 18/06/2026 19:08

We pay £17 p/h for a 4 hour clean (home counties). A good cleaner who doesn't start letting standards drop after a few months is like gold dust. Good luck on your search!

In my experience the most expensive cleaners are the worst ones. And the one’s who do an amazing job for a couple of weeks, you think it’s all sorted and then they let standards slide really quickly!

We pay £45 a week for a 4 bed/2 bath house - normally takes just under 3 hrs, it’s not a difficult clean as it never gets really dirty in just a week. We supply all cleaning equipment. She’s not the best cleaner we’ve had, but she’s far from the worst and does a decent job.

Wow, that cleaner saw you coming, that's a crazy price.

How much do you earn per hour?

Dorothyperky · 18/06/2026 19:30

I've paid £20 ph and have 2 times two hours once a week after a major deep clean. I tried someone else today and they left early because all surfaces had to be clear and all floors clear. I have books, china and a few washing baskets. Nuts. It was like the nanny in Mrs Doubtfire.

Springtimeinsunshine · 18/06/2026 19:39

I'm looking for a cleaner and the quotes have been between £18 to £22 an hour, and all have said 2 hours for a 3 bed so that's a maximum of £44 a clean. They bring their own tools and cleaning materials. E.Mids.

Just worked it out and it’s £29 as a band 6 AHP.

This is how I look at things like this, if I have to pay more than I earn then I'm going to do it myself if I can

BerkshireMum2026 · 19/06/2026 11:17

You are definitely being taken for a ride! £60 for 1.5 hours in the Midlands is a massive hourly rate, so for that price you should be getting a pristine clean. Moving the kettle/fruit bowl and wiping the hob is basic standard cleaning. I’d be looking for someone else!

Bitzee · 19/06/2026 11:30

Over £30 ph is absolutely taking the piss. I do think 2 hours might be tight for a 3 bed house but I’d expect an hourly rate of more like £20 but they stay for 3 hours so still £60 but the house is spotless at the end.

MrsLFii · 19/06/2026 11:33

That’s an awful lot of money, before you even look at the fact she does a shit job. Our cleaner is £18 an hour, two hours to do a pretty good job indeed of our three bed, two bath, three reception room home.

roses2 · 20/06/2026 14:22

I pay £16/hour in London and 5 hours for a 4 bed 2 bath house. Although due to cost I have 3 hours per week and ask them to clean half the house each visit.

You do have to be specific about moving the fruit bowl, not using a scouter to clean the cooker labels etc.

DeedlessIndeed · 20/06/2026 21:04

We pay £60 for 2 hours - but get a two cleaner team for that!

They aren't perfect, but all surfaces and floors are good.

Not doing a hob is not on.
