Tumble Dryer recommendations!

Please oh please someone help me. My dryer has died and I’m drowning in washing. It is a condenser and has been horrendous, I’ve hated it.

My mum has a brilliant old vented one with a high/low setting and a timer, nothing else, however I don’t seem to be able to get my hands on one. She can dry a load of towels in an hour, it’s fab.

Can anyone recommend one which gets clothes dry, not damp, in a reasonable timeframe? I was looking at nearly three hours to dry a load of towels.

Thanking in advance!!

We have a Bosch condenser , it’s excellent and quick

I got my mum a Hoover vented tumble dryer about 6 months ago, they aren't banned until July, it dries a full load in about an hour, it's a 10kg model. Ring around any independent appliance shops who may have some left. I'm just about to purchase a Bosch Series 6 Heat Pump dryer as they are coming top in tests, not cheap at nearly £800 but are reliable.

Topseyt123 · 05/06/2026 01:13

I have a Bosch condenser too and it is very good.

I don't use it for every load as I prefer to line dry outside when I can, but it can dry a good sized load in an hour.

I have a Miele heat pump which is brilliant and dries quickly even on the gentle dry touch. I changed the settings to make it dry slightly more and that was enough. Thick large bath towels don’t take long. Between 1-2 hrs

MysticHalfWitch · 05/06/2026 05:34

Thank you so much. I’m the same, I line dry where I can, but ughhhhhh this week.

I bought a Hisense heat pump dryer in December and it’s brilliant. Cheap as chips to run and paid under £400 on offer at Costco. I have the old vented one sat in the garage with high, low and timer on it. Costs a bloody fortune in leccy to run though and shrinks your clothes!!

ArtistBaptist · 06/06/2026 17:55

Stupid question probably but do you run your towels through the spin cycle in the washing machine, a couple of times, before putting in the dryer?

MysticHalfWitch · 06/06/2026 21:11

I do! They’re as dry as I can get them before they go in. It’s maddening. I’m led to believe the heat pump ones take ages though don’t they? Like four hours ages?

Get one a couple of kg capacity sizes bigger than your washing machine, gives it all a bit more room

This is such a thoughtful post and you are clearly wonderful parents for caring so much! Didcot has some great options for kids her age. Didcot Gymnastic Club runs sessions for her age group and is great for making new friends outside of school. Art and craft classes at local community centres are also brilliant for sociable kids she would thrive in that environment. Swimming lessons too are great for building friendships on a regular basis. Facebook groups like Didcot Mums or Didcot Community are also worth posting in lots of parents in similar situations who would love a playdate! Wishing her lots of lovely new friendships

@BerkshireMum2026 You seem to be answering a question from another thread. This thread is a discussion about dryers and what to buy.

MysticHalfWitch · 07/06/2026 05:34

@BerkshireMum2026Hahah I am indeed a wonderful parent!! I shall take the compliment! However would you also mind telling me what tumble dryer you use and if you like it?

I have a Miele condenser. It’s great - but bigger outlay but has it for years and years with no issue.

BerkshireMum2026 · 07/06/2026 23:59

glad to help! I have a Hotpoint vented dryer and honestly it has been brilliant gets a full load of towels dry in under an hour which is exactly what you need! Really straightforward to use too with no complicated settings. Would definitely recommend going for a vented one over a condenser you won't look back!

Imusthavesaiditwrong · 11/06/2026 15:43

Oh my thank the Lord for this thread. I was about to start one as my vented Bosch has died. I had a Miele condenser when we moved to this house which was useless. Useless I tell you. I never ever ever want another. Hours to dry towels. I loathed the bloody thing.

I actually don’t know what to do. Heat pumps seems to take forever. I’m disabled and have a cleaner come in one day a week who does washing, towels, bedding, dog stuff etc.

MysticHalfWitch · 11/06/2026 16:28

@ImusthavesaiditwrongI still haven’t bought one! The situation is becoming urgent 🙈🙈. I seem to have decision paralysis!! I’ve not even narrowed it down!!! The only thing I am definite on is that I don’t want a heat pump as they take ages.

Imusthavesaiditwrong · 11/06/2026 17:05

Exactly. They can’t be that much better for the environment, if they take blooming hours to dry. I’ve had to buy a heated towel rail to tide me over…

Nat6999 · 12/06/2026 18:29

Ring around independent appliance dealers, they may have a few vented ones still in stock
