House-sitters- how much do they cost/earn,have you used one? What would you expect?

I'm asking because a good pal of mine has mentioned she'd love to use one as she has 2 cats & a dog & putting them all in kennels whilst they're away adds up if you only want a quick weekend break, as well as disrupting them. Plus a house sitter helps to improve security in terms of the house looking more lived in. I have volunteered my mother (who they know) & she is goin g to ring & have a natter & pop round next time she is up.Trouble is she doesn't have a clue what to ask-she'd probably take it in wine or goodies! She'd not want a lot.

I have found various companies online but just want a rough idea without ringing them up.

Any thoughts/experiences? Thanks

I think that its often a swap scenario - someone gets a quiet place to stay for a week while minding the cats.

Otherwise I'd say probably anything from £10 per day upwards. It depends on if they have fully stocked fridge etc they expect you to plough through.

sorry, not a very helpful response really.

No that's fine GW-just thinking out loud really.!

Yes a swap scenario is what we all think we have in mind. I was thinking if they covered the cost,or some of, of her petrol (she's a pensioner so that would be great)then effectively she gets to see us for free! Plus knowing my chums they'd leave her lots of nice goodies & some vino & the animals would be happy as they don't get uprooted. Still would work out cheaper than an agency methinks!
