I’ve used persil non bio for years but recently they’ve changed the formula and it smells so strong and horrible. I tried Ecover after ditching persil but it leaves my laundry smelling of absolutely nothing at best, and musky at worst. Can anyone recommend any nice washing detergent that actually smells fresh?

Smol the bio pods aren’t over powering they just smell clean and fresh I get them on subscription or you can get them in Sainsbury’s for £1 more
Daz powder. Again not an over powering smell left on. Clothes just clean and fresh

both have excellent cleaning power and get rid of even tough stains like tomato based sauces and suncream without having to use other products.

I've used Fairy non-bio for years. I also used to use Persil, until they "updated" it; and the clothes always looked dingy.

HoldMyWine · 04/06/2026 11:46

I like Daz as well or Lidl own brand bio powder

Scampuss · 04/06/2026 12:21

I use Ariel powder, about half the recommend dose, washes great and no overpowering smell.

Whataflippincircus · 04/06/2026 12:22

I use Lidl own brand powder. It’s cheap, does the job and smells nice.

Tortephant · 04/06/2026 12:50

Yes, yes, yes. I am a massive advocate for FrenchSoaps.
In use this as I don’t want fragranced, but they do fragrance and liquids too. I won’t go back now and very cost effective.

If you like non-bio, the waitrose own brand powder is nice with a scent that sits in the background rather than whacking you in the face.

SparklyBrickViper · 04/06/2026 13:30

If you are going boujee I would recommend Tallow & Ash.

I love the Oud.

shinypen · 04/06/2026 13:35

Ecover powder - but use more of it - an extra scoop to get clean. I hate laundry smell and wonder what chemicals I'm breathing in with the other brands.

I like Daz, just smells clean and fresh but not overpowering - it is a Bio though.

Aldi Almat non bio could be worth a try

RoseyLentil · 04/06/2026 14:37

DAZ or Bold. Powder never capsules 💊

Fairy non bio for me too. Very mild smell.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/06/2026 14:50

Liquid but they also do a powder, Sainsbury’s non bio is also mildly scented. I’ve only tried liquids for fairy and Sainsbury’s though not powder.

Kirkland non bio powder.

I agree It smells nice but doesn’t clean very well. A bit like Purdue & Fig, all about fragrance and selling a lifestyle, not actually that good at doing its job.

Honestly, do look at French Soaps, their products are perfect for you.

Tortephant · 05/06/2026 18:55

I haven’t tried these laundry fragrances because I prefer fragrance free, but I do trust this store

Came across this thread because I was looking for reviews on T+A. I'm making my way through the samples and a full bottle and I'm yet to find one that smells like the fragrance once it's dried. I was thinking of emailing them to find out what I'm doing wrong 😂

Bossyboo · 07/06/2026 21:00

Bold powder 😊

Turnitoffnonagain · 07/06/2026 21:06

Lidl bio has a fresh mild smell.
I also like m&s laundry liquid, though wish it was powder.

Now you’re making my wonder what I’m doing wrong!

I generally only use it for bedding, and workwear so perhaps it’s not good for general washing? 🤷‍♀️

I also do relatively small loads, as I don’t have a family to do laundry for.

When I am doing a full load it’s Lidl non bio.

mumumental · 07/06/2026 22:00

The nicest smell of laundry is of fresh air.

I hated Tallow and Ash. Horrible fragrances, overpowering and sickly. I was so disappointed!
I use Smol pods mentioned by pp. Occasionally use Method liquid. I like laundry to have some scent but not to be too strong. I quite like the Ecover Bio actually, Honeysuckle and something ? It’s quite nice in a hot wash, eg bedding and towels.
Think I might try the French soap stuff mentioned .

You can’t wash laundry in fresh air though.
