Are collapsible laundry baskets any good for saving space at home?

Does anyone have those collapsible laundry baskets that squash down? Are they any good? Always tripping over mine as don’t have anywhere really to keep them, and they seem to follow me round the house like a couple of toddlers. Would like to be able to stuff them in a cupboard. (Note ; I didn’t do this to my toddlers 😁)

Laid awake as usual and pondering all the important things in life. 😉

I’ve tried a few and hated most of them. I find the flexible silicone bits break away from the main frame quite quickly so I’ve had to replace them, and also most of them don’t have a handle to hold with just one hand so you either have to use both hands or hold against your hip, which is a pain for going upstairs- but that may be a niche bug bear.

BUT I have found one I’m really happy with so far. And it was super cheap!

It’s a collapsible net basket with some flexible wires to keep it rigid. But it folds down into itself so it’s totally flat and you can even fold it into a little circle of you want. I’m actually going to take it in our next holiday because I can stuff our daily washing in it and take it down to the laundry rather than 5 carrier bags. And it was only £7.99 so if it doesn’t last that long I won’t care.

edit to add I’ve attached photo but it’s waiting to be approved

I also have this one. It’s been great, so easy to pop up and down. I also have the brabantia linen style one but that was much more expensive.

Sounds like you need a thinner taller washing basket rather than a faffy thing you have to keep foldkng
amd unfolding.

I have a load of collapsible crates of the type linked above. When they're folded they lean against the wall behind the door of the utility room. I find that a crate filled to the brim is a full load, which is good because I don't get to the machine and find I can't fit it all in but bad if there are two dry loads outside to be brought in as it will usually need two trips.

I did try an Addis folding laundry basket but it's way more effort to fold and unfold, and it's still pretty chunky when folded.

I have this one. You can see when I purchased it. Still going strong although the creases are beginning to go. Not bad for 7 years.

I have these and I store them in the cupboard when not using. I think they are brilliant.

As others has said it depends how much laundry and how on top of laundry you are. We have one but it’s never collapsed because it always has laundry in it 😆

We use folding crates

We use the Addis fold flat baskets from Amazon. About £12 each. Have five or so and store them on top of my washer/dryer stack. They are brilliant. The flattest and strongest I found.

I use an IKEA bag. They regularly have pretty designs if you're that inclined, fold flat, have a long handle that can go over your shoulder, and is it's not solid so I can throw it down the stairs when full and keep hands free/carry other things down.

TBH, the best and most tidyable laundry basket is a blue IKEA bag. Or the same size ones from supermarkets which cost about £2.50.
