If you wrap them individually you then have loads of them, they dont really fit in boxes (at least not the big ones)

Im over thinking this aren't I?

I'd wrap them in blankets.

Individually? With string to hold them in place?

small ones are wrapped and then put together in a box which is sealed as usual. larger ones are wrapped and then put into individual picture/mirror boxes - they come in various designs but are essentially like big cardboard folders which slide together/overlap to protect the contents.

Hmm maybe tv boxes? Purposed boxes sound expensive

I'd just do some generous bubble-wrapping with tape and lean against a wall until they are moved/hung.

I wrapped mine in blankets and then put in a box and padded that out with more towels so they couldn't move around. I marked the box fragile.

If using removals, they can supply the correct boxes.
Alternatively, wrap them in bubble wrap and then slide into a flattened cardboard box (like a letter into an envelope). Not an Amazon type box but a thick, corrugated box.
We started collecting v.large, suitable boxes a couple of years before we moved for this very purpose. Doing our own packing, every picture, painting etc survived without problems including 6-months in storage.
