Nice smelling stuff for the house

I don't like spray air-fresheners, and want to avoid the plug-in energy-wasting ones. I mostly stick some pot pourri in bowls round the place, but it doesn't have much scent for very long.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or ways I can "freshen up" the pot pourri?

Wow - £30 I could consider, but £95 then £28 for the refills is a bit steep! I reckon a tenner's worth of pot pourri now and then is extravagent!

When you have your radiators on you can get ceramic pots that hang on them, and you put water and essential oils in them - a much nicer smell than synthetic air-fresheners.

Most of my radiators are quite "fat", and the pots I've seen don't look like they'd go over them very well. But maybe they're more adaptable than they look?

Have you looked on Ebay? I got mine a while ago, but I do have thin radiators.

Maybe you can modify them and extend the handle?

I have an oil burner, too, and I mix oils for it.

Beeswax candles from an apiary in Perth and a soya wax candles from a local soapmaker.

Slit open a vanilla pod and simmer it in a pan of water on low heat for a bit.

If you have a wood burning stove or fire, throw citrus peel or dried pine cones or flowers on it.

Put a few drops of essential oil on a cool lightbulb before you turn it on.

Ditto your radiator.

I like PartyLite candles, they really smell of what they're supposed to and last for ages. They are fairly expensive though (not as expensive as Jo Malone though!).

I've recently discovered a little local shop stock Colonial candles, the Soft Linen ones smell gorgeous, really fresh.

If things smell nice, not artificial, and last for a while I don't mind paying a bit more for them (though not £95 LOL). But I've been a bit cautious of spending a lot on something and it not being worth it - sometimes you wonder if it's just the name on the label you're paying for.
