Dryer balls for washer dryer?

FancyMauveDreamer · 09/05/2026 20:37

I just got a washer dryer and can’t seem to find dryer balls which can go through a continuous wash-dry cycle. Wool ones soak up water and the ecozone cubes say “not suitable for washing machines”. Any suggestions please? Or any alternatives?

I’ve not had a washer drier. Can you not just chuck them in once the wash cycle is finished?

Can you throw in the wool balls at the end of the wash cycle? They're not supposed to go into the wash.

The wool ones are fantastic, but definitely throw them in just before the drying cycle

There are plastic ones which I had years ago, but they ended up being quite brittle and broke up after a number of washes

There’s no pause between wash and dry cycles - it just washes then goes straight on to drying. I don’t think I can open the washing machine halfway through.

Why do you need them?
white vinegar is easy and cheap, good for fabric and your machine

They really speed up the drying time and are great for drying puffa jackets where the inner material can clump otherwise. Vinegar is instead of fabric conditioner

I’m hoping clothes will come out less creased and clumped with dryer balls (or whatever equivalent works for a washer dryer).
