New house smells musky. What will help get rid of smells.

Our new house smells quite musky. Specifically the kitchen and utility room. Not sure what I can use to get rid of the smells apart from opening the windows. Would a purifier help at all? Not sure what else to try? Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Open the windows.
Maybe put the heating on if the temperature drops slightly. Or a dehumidifier might be a better call.

If you can, leave the kitchen cupboard doors open thst might help too.

Open all the windows as much as possible. You probably already have but mop the floor with disinfectant.

I’d empty all the cupboards, check behind/underneath/ any little gaps and clean it out. Pull out anything that will move and do behind/ underneath. I’d be checking for damp patches and mildew especially if it was empty for a bit.
Clean out the drains.

That should help.

Neautradol air fresheners the little gel pots out one in every room. You can buy it in one below. Leave shake and vac down overnight

Joss sticks are great at getting the smell away

A lot of obsessive cleaning (with the windows open). You may well find something behind a panel or a ventilator or something.

Maybe have the damp checked?

White vinegar

A purifier can help a bit, but honestly it won’t fix the root cause. I’d first check the usual spots like sink drains, under/behind appliances especially in the kitchen and utility room, and any cupboards that haven’t really been aired out yet. Those areas tend to hold onto that damp smell.

If it smells kind of “wet” or earthy, a dehumidifier usually makes a much bigger difference than a purifier. Once you pull the moisture out of the air, the smell often drops pretty quickly.

And yeah, airing it out properly for a few days still goes a long way too, just opening windows here and there isn’t always enough on its own.

We had this, got a good dehumidifier, open windows regularly and I invested in diffusers (oil ones with reeds) in all rooms needed, it’s helped a lot!

Make sure no one has left prawns in the curtain rods!

Could be the drains. Pour some bleach down the drains and wait a while then boiling water. Bleach works better with cold water to clean but the boiling water can help melt any blockages if there is any
