Monthly cleaner for a large rural house: enough and what cost?

Im new to the idea of getting a cleaner

I have a huge house and as Im getting older Im finding it harder to keep on top off

I do the daily cleaning, ie the bathroom we use, the living spaces we use

Is it possible to hire a cleaner , or do I need a cleaning company , to come once a month to dust, wipe down doors, skirtings, , dust walls and cielings. clean inside windows?

I can manage every day cleaning, floors, bathrooms, kitchen etc , its just those jobs and things like keeping the spindles ( hundreds `) dusted

Is once a month even enough?

its five bedrooms, 4 bathrooms , 3 receptions over a story and a half

Any advice, or experience, and idea of cost?

Im rural we burn wood and coal and then we have the farming dust as well.. My house never totally looks clean between dust and insect poo and tbh , at my age I dont want to be spending every spare hour keeping on top of it

Would those with experience think once a moth is enough? And How many hours?

If you have a large house and fires then I’d go for a more regular clean. Certainly if you also have dogs/cats.

I have a large house and wood burners and it does generate more dust in that part of the house.

we have five hours a week at about £20 an hour. Three for downstairs and two for upstairs.

We have a large house and have 8 hours of cleaning a week plus us keeping on top of it ourselves. If you only want once a month, and want things like skirting boards done, I think you’d need two cleaners working as a team for 4-6 hours and in that case a company may be best. Given the remote location etc I’d expect to pay a couple of hundred pounds for a monthly service .

I find most cleaners are good at the day to day and not so good at the deep clean as I call it. So yes, totally ok to do that but make sure you have a clear brief and they understand what you are wanting.

Thankyou everyone for your replies and expericeces and knowledge - appreciated, food for thought

We are looking at selling up, the house is way too big for us, but its not a sellers market at the moment.

Whatever you decide, I’d strongly recommend that you tell whoever you are thinking of offering the work to roughly what you want then ask them to put together their recommendation for how it would work and the cost.

their experience will be much better used and you get a feel for how experienced they really are. Good luck.
