Do heat pump tumble dryers make your towels as soft and fluffy as a traditional tumble dryer?

Yes

annonymousse · 21/04/2026 17:42

Yes.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 22/04/2026 00:41

Yes, but they take all day to do it.

aniloD · 22/04/2026 01:14

Yesm love mine. If thoroughly spun a new one doesn't take much longer than a traditional dryer and uses much less electricity even when it takes a bit longer. Like 1/4 of the cost

annonymousse · 22/04/2026 12:33

Mine isn't much slower than my old condenser dryer. I was pleasantly surprised when I made the switch.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 22/04/2026 12:42

Does anyone have any experience of washer dryers with a heat pump?

Are they just as good as the freestanding heat pump dryers?

hahabahbag · 22/04/2026 12:45

Yes if you have 6 hours to spareConfused ours is useless, only positive is it drives us to use the line

TheFairyCaravan · 22/04/2026 12:46

Yes.

Mine takes a couple of hours to dry a load of towels.

I’ve just switched from a condenser tumble dryer to a heat pump and am amazed how much better it is. It doesn’t take that much longer than the old one, but it’s far better on the clothes, and yes towels are super fluffy. Mine is a Haier.

Geneticsbunny · 22/04/2026 14:15

Heat pump driers do take longer and if you put a mixed load of different fabrics in, like towels and synyhetics then ours seems to struggle to dry everything but that is the only problem we have had so far.

I saw a very interesting YouTube piece made by a machine repair guy. He buys driers, washing machines and dishwashers, tests them in an 'everyday' way (mixed loads etc) and then takes them apart to see how easy they are to repair and get spare parts for. He hates heat pump dryers as the parts are difficult to get, expensive and the motor and pump (the two bits most likely to fail) are really difficult to access, he had to dismantle the whole machine to get to them. Based on that I'm very cautious about the technology as I know how much companies charge for call outs and repairs!

Yes ours is great. It’s an aeg one and doesn’t take hours? Like an hour maximum for bedding or towels.
it’s almost 10 years old and never had any issues

Heat pump dryers work better in some situations than others. The time taken to dry a load depends on the ambient temperature in your home. If you keep your home warm then there is more heat for them to extract from the room. My home is kept at 18C or less in winter, and it struggles with this. If your routine or household depends on being able to dry a load quickly, a heat pump dryer may not be for you. I have a large household where people often need to do a quick wash and dry. It doesn't work for us. Mine is a Bosch Serie 4 heat pump dryer.

If I was the sort of person who had a routine where timing didn't matter, or I knew what I'd be doing in 3 hours' time when the non-iron school shirts needed to be taken out and hung up before creases set, or older kids never needed to dry their own stuff in a hurry before dashing off to uni / sports, it'd be OK. As it is, I'm planning to sell it on and get another sensor condensor dryer.
