How do you organise your washing if you do..
I seem to be ok at getting it done it's just the ironing (which if i am honest i just don't bother with)and when everything is washed getting in the wardrobes... there always seems to be a basket waiting for me!!
HELP!!!!!

Anything that does not need ironing - I put away straight away.

Sometimes I have a weeks worth of ironing and other times I will do it as I go along, obviously depends on what I have on during the week.

I wash just about every day and I tend to put the machine on as soon as I get up.

i iron and put away on a night if i am doing a lot of washing like when getting out last years summer clothes otherwise i do it for a few hours on a sunday.

I cannot get dp to empty his side of wardrobe which doesn't help.
He doesn't fit into most of it. If he did it wouldn't be fashionable!!

know what you mean- I have a magic washing basket, bit like the magic porridge pot! I empty it then turn round and....KAZAM, it's full again! No easy answers, although wipe clean lycra suits for the whole family might be the way to go.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/06/2008 17:00

And DH now jokingly refers to the washing as my no 1 "hobby"

my dp thinks that it's actually a failing in me as a person that there is always washing of some discription in our house.
I understand what he see's because i see it to but....
I went into the Lakeland store yesterday almost expecting to find the answer in there!

It's that final bit that trips me up to be honest. Dp and ds have a massive amount of clothing..

four words for you

service wash at laundrette

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/06/2008 17:08

a failing in you??? Because people in your family continue to get their clothes dirty?? Next time he puts something in the wash, tell him you are disappointed in his ability to keep it clean! Laundry is a ongoing task- that's the way of the world!!

leoleo · 19/06/2008 17:10

I think that is his attempt at manipulation thinking I will be motivated to prove my 'worth' as a women and a house keeper.
Bless!

I love washing and I put that poncerronie smelly stuff in my iron.

I am a smell freak though.

However if I have been ill/busy and it all piles up (I have been known to have a hissy fit and chuck clothes away) Just old tatty stuff with holes husband's stuff mainly.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/06/2008 17:10

I've actually just started ironing recently ( dd1 is starting school and I don't want her to be talked about for being crumpled!) and it is actually almost a relief, because now instead of having to spend ages sorting everything and putting it away, I chuck most of it in a basket for ironing, and when I do come to put it away it is all folded and in pikles, so dead easy!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/06/2008 17:11

in pikles?? Of course I mean piles

Anna8888 · 19/06/2008 17:12

It's a much bigger failing in your DH that he won't go through his wardrobe and chuck out/recycle/ebay anything that he isn't going to wear again.

He can hardly expect you to keep your side of the bargain (laundry and ironing) if he doesn't keep his (keeping his things in order).

Get him to sort (do it together). The laundry will become much more manageable if you have adequate wardrobe space to put it all away tidily.

DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 17:14

We do 2 loads a day... or so it feels! Dry as much outside as possible, but towels, bed linen and jeans get tumbled.

Folded straight from tumbler, folded off the line, but ironing is a once a fortnight job (or whenever we run out of clothes!)

Clothes being put away is the bain of my life..... most stuff stays in each persons basket and taken out to be worn again so shoot me! More to life than laundry!

leoleo · 19/06/2008 17:19

ok I have seen an idea to steal - I am going to have 3 baskets (1 for each person)and when folding washing sort into each persons basket and aim to put ds washing away (he is only 3yo) and then mine and if dp feels the need to express himself about washing I shall check he has practised what he has preched...
I am sure as long as he can't see it he wont care

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/06/2008 17:22

oh yes- more baskets!! I have 6!

saltire · 19/06/2008 17:30

I must admit I am washing a lot at the minute becasue I was 10 days without a washing machine and there is only so much you cna expect the neighbours to do. DH goes to teh gym everyday, so thats a towel, shorts and t-shirt. Then he has a clean shirt for work every day. The DSe4s I can usually make their school trousers and sweatshirts last a couple of days, but what they wear to play in gets filthy.
However, DH does iron a lot. he does all his work shirts and DSes school uniform plus at least half the basket every Sunday. he has been known to stand and iron for ages on his day off - like tomorrow!

saltire · 19/06/2008 17:30

Also waitng for new tumble dryer to arrive

leoleo · 19/06/2008 17:54

Are we able to bid on your dh? what a dream! Bless him.

moshiecat · 19/06/2008 18:12

I too put everything away as soon as it's dry. My theory is things only get creased when put in a basket waiting to be ironed.

maidamess · 19/06/2008 18:14

You have to do a load every day, from washing right down to putting it away.

Washing it is the easy part. Its the rest of the process that takes up time and space.
