Tumbledrying big duvet covers

I'm after some ideas.

Whenever I tumble our king or double duvet covers they end up screwed in a ball and wet inside still.

What can I do to prevent this? Thanks!

If I can’t dry outside, I fold them in half and hang them on the main bathroom towel rail (take the towels off first).
Nice and dry the next day and not scrumpled up at all.

Can you stop it half way through, shake it out and pop it back in for a bit.

That’s what I do. I have tried many things - dryer balls , closing the buttons. Always ends up the same.

I get them mostly dry on the outdoor washing line if the weather's OK or heated airer/radiator if it's not and then just finish them off in the tumble dryer.

I do the stopping half way and shake it out.

Interestingly my last tumble dryer did not 'ball' stuff up. No idea what's different. It was the same sort of price range ....

I read on here I think that if you tie the cover into a loose knot with the diagonal corners it lessens the chance of a tight ball. I’ve tried it and it does work to a certain extent.

I have discovered that if you do the buttons before it goes in the washing machine it is less likely to do this. Apparently there is more friction created on the unprinted side of the fabric which is why they turn inside out when being washed… I think it should also apply to dryers… but I do try and dry outside as much as possible.

You need to redo the buttons of fasteners before you wash and dry!

I have tried everything for my superking duvet cover, nothing seems to work, even tumble dried on its own. I found I have to pull it out a few times to unball it but this requires you to have hands that can handle that heat.

Mine cannot so I have put a wardrobe rail on the landing. I have two bedroom doors opposite each other on the landing and the rail slots into the brackets that are over the top of the door architraves. That way I can dry it inside when the weather is bad.

Exactly this. And it stops the pillow cases getting lost inside them

Thanks all for the ideas.

I already fasten before washing. @AhwigI'll try tying loose knots.

We have a heated towel rail so will definitely try that. I like to dry outside but weather has been awful this year......
