Indesit Cooker Query - Faulty or Not ?

Please can anyone help me decide if i'm right or wrong regarding my Indesit cooker ?

Its an all electric DD60C2C X UK 1 Double Cooker. I've had it 7 years so I know my own cooker. DH can just about make scrambled eggs and thats it.

It has a ceramic glass top with 2 large and 2 small 'rings'. When I'm boiling potatoes or other hard veg, like carrots, for example. I put it on the maximum heat and the whole ring lights up. I tend to stay with it because, especially with veg, potatoes, pasta, the pan has almost boiled over and i've turned down the heat down and the pan is then simmering.

Just recently, i've noticed that stuff isn't boiling over and frying stuff is taking longer, because the rings aren't fully staying alight when on high heat. So the temperature is dropping down I'd guess.

Is this normally what happens ? Because I've had the repair man out and my hubby has dealt with it, and repair man says that the rings always do this to prevent the glass from overheating and DH has agreed with this. I've have a care and repair plan via Currys which costs £33 a year so I've not had any repair charges.

For instance, I was de-salting a gammon round joint in my stock pot , I have it constantly boiling to get the salt out. Then I change water after 15 mins, and do it again. Slow cooker, then glaze, then oven bake. It tasted really salty last time. I've cooked this way before and never had this result. I believe it was because of temp not being maintained.

Please can anyone advise, who has a similar cooker. Thanks.
