Lakeland has a microfibre mop type thingy specially for wheelie bins, if that's any good.

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 20:30

ooh Lakeland

should really have known they would have just the thing

Wheel it to curb. Put hose in it. Turn on hose. Throw in disinfectant. Walk away for ten minutes.

I do mine with a broom actually but you have to lie them down. Have been trying to convince the cat to go inside (the long haired cat) but she's not up for it

namechangecosfeelingsad · 17/06/2008 20:40

Ha whomoved...

I had loads of leftover Milton/Asda's cheapie version sterilising tablets when DS turned 1, so I fill my bins with water and chuck a handful of those in every few years time I get the inclination.

southeastastra · 17/06/2008 20:43

boil a kettle chuck hot water in bin with disinfectant. empty.

Actually I've just bought a gutter cleaning attachment from Lakeland for my gutters and that is the dogs nads for cleaning out bins. It turns an ordinary hose into a high powered jet and because it's directional, you can blast the crap out the bottom of the bin. Of course the stuff ricochets towards your face so best to stand as far back as possible.

Nearly concussed myself last week unblocking the gutter, a large rock flew out (a bird must have dropped it in there, causing the blockage and the water pressure blasted it five feet in the air. I don't think I've had more fun with a flexible rod for quite a long time

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 20:45

but WMMC, i don't have a cat!

the pong is awful

i am going to tackle it tomorrow

bleach, kettle and will borrow the neighbour's moggie

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 20:46

We have four bins, it's cheaper to do it yourself and quite satisfying too. Either that or (shush) swap bins with your neighbours next bin day!

nannyL · 17/06/2008 20:50

i pour in loads of discinfectant

add a few kettles full of boiling water (and pout the lid on asap so steam remains inside.

leave for at least half an hour

i have a 'bin mop' which i swish around inside, then empty all the water out as much as poss and leave bin in sunshine open to completely dry out

it works for me

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 20:52

LOL at WMMC ..

bin swapping, cat stealing ... where will it end?

Thanks NannyL ...

Or salt and soda is good - absorbs the smells and you can just sweep it out afterwards. Most smells require moisture to survive.

Having visions of nannyL poised over bin with a moulinex hand mixer now

Lakeland wheelie bin cleaner thingy, in case you decide to try that route. (plus you could pretend to be on Gladiators )

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2008 21:02

It's just a big fucking cotton bud isn't it JackieNo?

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 21:03

HAHAHAH!

Jackie - am going to order one for sheer entertainment value

OP posts:
JackieNo · 17/06/2008 21:37

I suspect for true entertainment value you actually need two, so that you and a 'friend' can duel. Possibly on a trampoline, or something.

Gladiator READY
Contender READY

Sidge · 17/06/2008 21:54

I pay someone to come and clean mine. It's worth every penny!

I pay about £35 a year and they clean it every month.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2008 22:51

Thanks a bloody lot, you lot, I've just spent £65 at the Lakeland online sale now

Didn't buy the giant cotton bud though

serin · 17/06/2008 23:17

Our wheelie bin cleaning man sends his kids to private school, its very lucrative is cleaning bins!!
