Orange pasta stain won’t budge

How to get an orange stain out of work surface? (pasta sauce)

So far I’ve tried the obvious - bicarb, bleach (how the hell is bleach not working??) mould remover spray….its faded but still there! Unless the bleach I’ve got isn’t very good but thought it was all the same! Any other ideas?

How long did you leave the bleach on for?

workingcocker · 27/02/2026 06:40

You need UV light.

Laiste · 27/02/2026 06:41

Loo bleach (big thick squeeze bottle) soaked on a bit of tissue and put on the stain and left for a couple of hours?

Likeoohlaalaala · 27/02/2026 06:47

Is the stain going to get sun on it? Red pigment is not very UV stable and will fade with sunlight (if we ever get any)

FlorenceBlack · 27/02/2026 07:44

Hand sanitiser gel is sometimes worth a try on stains, one with a high alcohol content.

letshavetea · 27/02/2026 07:46

Try Barkeepers Friend (powder version). It will work, I’m sure. Always does on my cream stone kitchen worktops.

The Pink Stuff paste. It’s magical. I’d tried everything on an orange pasta stain and a red wine stain. Took it off in an instant

Hang it outside in day light. Hopefully the sun will peek through and vanish it.

DarkForces · 27/02/2026 07:54

Hand it in the window until it vanishes. The sun is magic but it'll take a week in this weather!

keepingsanity · 27/02/2026 08:20

.

DappledThings · 27/02/2026 08:22

Trying to work out if the multiple posters suggesting hanging it in the sun are joking or have failed to read an OP even as short as this one.

I'll write out 100 lines and stand in the corner in recompense. Hope that improves your day

Zoflora!

24Dogcuddler · 27/02/2026 11:13

Might depend what the work surface is made from. Have you tried lemon juice?

Noseyoldcow · 27/02/2026 11:23

Assuming that the worktop is a stone type, it may be that the stain has penetrated the surface and needs poulticing out. You can buy stone poultices (Lithofin Oil Ex) or you could try a home made one. Mix bicarbonate of soda with water, you need a paste the consistency of peanut butter. Place it over the stain, and put cling film on top to prevent it drying out too fast. Leave it for 24 to 48 hours (try to keep it wet) to draw out the stain. Then let it dry out, then remove the poultice. Hopefully you’ll find the stain reduced, if not removed. If there’s still a shadow, repeat the process. Good luck!

Hanging a marble worktop on a line may prove challenging 😉

UV light or Barkeeper Friend both work ime.

HugoThatway · 27/02/2026 11:52

Stick it in the washing machine and give it a boil wash, then chuck some lemon juice on it and hang it on the line for a few days. Smile
