Dog Smell

We’re hopefully putting the house up for sale in Spring. I keep on top of the cleaning as much as possible (work full time) but we have 4 dogs and I’m worried about any smell that people on viewings might pick up on.
Ideally the hairy monsters will be out on a walk when people come, but can anyone recommend any products or have any tips on masking any odour? We don’t have carpets, laminate, and I have a new rug to put down nearer the time.

I have heard Asevi pet floor cleaner is good. Also just letting lots of fresh air in, maybe some febreze on the curtains. But realistically it will still smell a bit doggy.

Expensive scented candles especially at the front entrance

Zoflora on the paint work is helpful. That said, I don’t mind dog smells at all but cigarettes is the smell I can’t live with. Once you move out the new owner won’t have the dog smell for long (unless they have a dog). We bought this house pre having dogs and loved seeing how it worked for the owner with her dog. It was a selling point for us 😂

I have a dog & I open my windows everyday, I have plug-in diffusers dotted all around the house, make sure you are regularly washing their dog beds, any towels/coats etc too & I swear by Zoflora Pet for the floors and you can’t smell him at all in the house!! It’s just important to stay on top of everything that could smell.

Also pop some leave-in Conditioner on the dogs coats & you will be amazed at how the dogs just smell so beautiful

Hope that helps!

Good Luck 🤞

Put all dog beds and paraphernalia in the shed or garage on day of the viewings . Open windows from early morning.
hoover but with a clean non doggy hoover ( hard to get but buy a cheap one to run round) or put lenor scent balls in it . Wipe floors with a nice spray not lots of water and smelly mop . OR I have a swiffer I do the dust magnet swiff first then the floor wipe and spray next .
have a few “ nice diffusers”
Make sure any smelly rugs blankets are banned and sofa cushions are washed or put outside to air or hoovered and sprayed .

we have sold houses with 5 dogs .
no one has ever commented.

deep clean the house , especially any soft furnishings, regularly take the dogs to a groomer to reduce odour , wash bedding frequently , open windows and air house ,during viewings take dogs out for walks away from viewers and put their bedding etc in the car / shed , try not to use candles etc to mask the doggy smell it only seems to emphasise it , get a friend to come and do a sniff test as your own dogs are less smelly to the owners as they are used to them

The obvious things are washing bedding etc.
I cant post a link but Amazon do a “Fresh Pet Kennel Disinfect and Deodoriser” in Bubblegum. Bear with me because I know it sounds awful but it is the BEST thing I’ve found for eliminating dog smells without covering them with chemical smells. I have a lot more dogs than you and have also recently moved house.
Like you, my dogs were out when viewings happened but it’s very obvious I have a lot (they have their own rooms!) but a lot of viewers commented that they were surprised it didn’t smell and we sold it with no problems.

I use conditioner on my Golden Retriever and he does indeed smell beautiful ....for about two days, after which he inevitably does the "Goldie roll" thing in the park in something nasty 🤣we have a humidifier which gets rid of cooking smells...and also dog smells too as when I came back from a trip away I was pleasantly surprised by how un-doggy the place smelt!

Start with a deep deep clean of every room. Open windows daily. Air purifier. Bergere lamp. Dampen a cotton wool ball slightly, then put essential oils on it and put it in the hoover bag. Hoover every day, everywhere, including sofas. Wipe down walls, doors and skirting boards. If your dogs ever pee on the patio, scrub it daily with hot water, fairy and disinfectant. Wash your dogs and their bedding weekly.
I know it sounds a lot, but I do think it’s necessary. I have dogs, but I wouldnt want to buy a house that smelled of them. Once you’ve moved, relax!
