Softened water - will a filter make the taste better

We currently have a water softener and a little side tap next to the main tap in the kitchen for the mains water, which we prefer to drink because the softened water doesn't taste nice. We're having a kitchen upgrade and getting a 4 in 1 boiling water (well 98 degrees) tap. This also includes a carbon water filter. Rather than having the mains water tap I was wondering if we could just drink the filtered water. Has anyone else done this? How does the softened water taste once it's been through the filter? Thanks.

If your water softener uses salt, you shouldn't drink the water, or give it to your pets or plants. Mains water usually tastes a bit better if you let it settle for a bit. Kitchen taps are usually plumbed straight into the mains supply and so are ok to drink from.

unsync - I think you didn't understand my post. I want to know from people's experience what softened water that's been through a filter tastes like.

Our 4 in 1 tap comes off the mains, not the softened water feed. The filtered water tastes better than the unfiltered, us neither are from the softened water source, The softened water is amazing for hair, skin, and less horrible cleaning of shower cubicle etc

No, you can use softened water in the 4 in 1. It's actually better for the boiling unit. What I really need and would really appreciate is someone who's actually done this telling me how the softened water tastes after it passes through the carbon filter.
