Laundry smells

Hi all, can anyone recommend a really good laundry softner/perfume? Every softener that I buy seems to come out smelling really old-fashioned even if it smells nice in the shop.

I like asevi ( the Spanish ones ) , you can get in B&M and home bargains now though

Lenor Northern Solstice

I use the Fairy’s Almond Milk & Manuka Honey in wash scent boosters and it makes our laundry smell lovely. I went on the hunt for it when I received a Vinted parcel and the clothes smelled amazing, reached out to the seller to ask what she used in her wash.

I do think smells can be quite personal and not every smell is for everyone but this one definitely works for us.

I like the fairy outdoorable (but only buy when it’s on offer as it’s bloody £4.50)

Don’t use softeners it’s bad for your fabric and your machine.

use vinegar for towels.

if you really want perfume rather than clean clothes smell use essential oils (if you don’t have cats) or a linen spray once your items have dried.

Tallow&Ash are honestly amazing! I have switched over to them, order directly from the website and get it delivered. The clothes smell incredible and I’ve had compliments on them - DH went for tea with his parents the other week and MIL text me asking what I was using 😂

Mizztikle · 09/02/2026 13:22

Tallow &Ash they are on the pricier side but your laundry will smell amazing! They have designer fragrance inspired scents, seasonal scents and other laundry products like Sprays to go with the laundry scents and stain removers. they are in Tesco but the scents are limited and they're always sold out, I buy line online to collect my points so I can redeem them and get free products.
Been using them a few years now and I'm addicted.
Also loving Aldi scent booster the tropical coconut one and the comfort elixir.(pink one)

We use a laundry perfume oil instead of elixir and scent boosters as it ends up being cheaper in the long run. I like elixir but you needed about a tenth of the bottle to get the right smell particularly with our teens gym kit… we use Perfure but there are others out there too Perfure. It’s a bit of an outlay but lasts months and saves a lot of cupboard space too…

The best smell that laundry can have, imo, is that lovely fresh air smell when you bring it inside from drying it outdoors on the washing line. There are no artificial fragrances that come anywhere close to it.

Yes, I agree.

Fairy Almond Milk and Manuka is my favourite

MissyB1 · 26/03/2026 16:08

Plain old fashioned Fairy can’t be beaten in my experience.

Clean clothes smell is just the smell of the washing powder or liquid you use so no difference really .

Instead of inflicting allergic reactions on the people around you, just dry your clothes promptly. They will smell just fine. If you develop any odor issues, use white vinegar.
