Yuk, yuk, yuk! Maggots in brown bin.

It has been 10 days since we were able to put food waste into our brown recycling bin, and I have been doing so, bundling it up in a sheet of newspaper. Now we have maggots inside the bin. It is not going to be emptied until Tuesday.

Will they have escalated out of control by then? Is there anything I can do now to get this under control?

Do they travel out of bins? I can't bear the thought of them getting into the house.

Bleach, two or three bottles, not very green though.

I've put a vat of vinegar and 3 bottles of bleach in there. They were starting to peep out of the lid this morning (despite local council's assurances that maggots couldn't get in or out ).

If that hasn't worked I'm going to spray the things with wasp killer (the only really toxic thing left in the house).

Sort of defeats the point of recycling IMO.
