Victorian houses

Hi, I'm thinking about purchasing a victorian house, but I've heard so much about the liklihood of damp and high ongoing maintenance costs. Anyone had experience of owning and living in one?

I have a Georgian cottage and, yes, it's riddled with damp. The stairs are a nightmare and I've fallen down them twice in three weeks and badly injured myself. There's always work that needs doing on it, costs a fortune that I don't have. But I love this little place, its like a hug.

We have a Victorian terrace. No issues with damp at all but it was draughty. We've done a lot of work to it so much better now. Good windows and carpet help. The price you pay for lovely high ceilings!

Yep, it’s true. It was always my dream then I rented one and decided never again. Impossible to keep warm in the winter and so much damp. I could hear the neighbours too much. The top floor was far too hot in the summer too.

I live in a Victorian house and love it, for me the benefits outweigh the negatives. We don't have damp issues although we do have condensation, we have a window hoover thing to suck that all up. It is hard to heat that cannot be denied. But I don't like a hot house! It's the plumbing that causes the most trouble for us and most of that won't be original so it will depend on the house.

I have a Victorian mid terrace, no damp thank goodness but always something that needs doing. I love it ❤️
