Cordless hoover recommends please

My 12 year old cordless Dyson has come to the end of its life tonight, when I’ve dropped it down the stairs and it’s cracked against the tiles 😩

I need to replace it with a new cordless hoover, I’ve got a corded hoover that I get out occasionally but I’m a daily hooverer and need a similar replacement for ease.

So to get to my point, would you please give me your recommendations for your top rated cordless hoovers that’s both amazing on tiles and carpet?

Thank you!

Ours is a Shark and it’s lightweight, easy to use and good on carpet and hard floors. Boost on a lift up catch on the handle. Easy to empty and change the battery.

Shark all the way. Bought a Cordless Vax and it was terrible no suction at all! Had a corded Shark which was great but too heavy and big for our tiny cottage. Cordless Shark is lighter and folds over for easy storage, suction probably not quite as strong as corded version but is good and battery life lasts enough for our small house.

Ours is a Henry, uses bags so you don’t have to choke on clouds of dust when you empty it. I hardly ever get the corded cleaners out now, it does a 4-storey house jn one charge - or yoh can boost for thicker carpets.

I have a gen5 detect, but if it died I would want a slightly lighter model. It’s good, though. Dyson never have the spare parts I want, especially if the motorised head needs replacing, so that would be another issue.

Henry is seriously heavy and falls over.

Cordless Shark owners, can I ask have any of you previously had a Dyson cordless, and would you rate Shark better?

(my cordless Dyson is also on the way out and am curious to know if getting a Shark would be better/ worse/ same)

Oh my god yes. I loved my Dysons until I got my first shark and I’ve never even looked back.

Edited

It is quite heavy but it’s good for us to carry heavy things! I had a corded Shark that burnt out after a few months and emptying it was disgusting; you had to dig around with your hand to get everything out whilst choking on the cloud of filthy dust.
Bag for me every time.

pinesofrome · 28/01/2026 23:34

I've got a Shark Detect Pro Auto Empty - it's brilliant! Empties the dust straight into a large canister on the docking station and charges quickly. Also bends to go under furniture. Best thing ever (I don't work for shark!).

ThePoshUns · 28/01/2026 23:43

Miele worth every penny. My cleaner says it’s the best hoover she has used.

Perfectnightssleep · 28/01/2026 23:55

Replaced my Dyson with a Samsung and it is brilliant so far.

I certainly think the Henry is effective. I still use my old one occasionally. I think carrying around heavy things is good for some people more than others.

To be clear, it’s a Henry cordless wand (although I also have a big Henry as well as two Mieles). As we get older, particularly for women, it benefits us all to lift as much as we can, when we can.

Londondreamer · 29/01/2026 10:57

Henry Quick for me as well. Really good suction and good charge.

Not noticed it being very heavy.

It’s heavier in the hand than the hoover atttachment obviously, but actually I don’t know how the weight compares to stick hoovers.

You are talking cobblers and this is nothing to do with strength exercise.

Okay then.

exhaustedmum24 · 29/01/2026 19:51

Shark

Brightvoyager · 29/01/2026 19:54

Going against the grain, find the shark cordless isn’t as good as the Dyson cordless I had.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 29/01/2026 19:57

Miele cordless. Saw a recommendation on here a few weeks ago. Bought it and it’s absolutely fantastic. Can not tell you how good it is.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 29/01/2026 20:16

I've just got a cordless Vax that I'm very happy with. On normal mode it's fine for flat floors and then you can turn on boost with the beater bar for carpets.

Tbh the biggest problem I've got with it is that it's pulling so much fluff from my carpet I'm seriously appalled by how poorly my old hoover was doing it.

BeckyBloom · 29/01/2026 20:24

I hate my corded shark and love my cordless dyson which is 8 years old and going strong. It’s used daily.
