Cleaner tips!

I’m just trying to get a bit of info together before we potentially get a cleaner/some help.

Both my partner and I work long hours, and take care of our son who has complex needs. Our days are very long, very full on, and just exhausting.

Increasingly, we just cannot keep on top of the house. We manage okay with day to day cleaning - the dishes are done, the surfaces wiped, beds changed etc.

But - we’re absolutely drowning in washing, the bathroom needs a real good going at, the floors are horrendous, the doors and skirting frames etc are an embarrassment, and I can’t remember the last time I moved furniture to clean behind.

I think we need someone to deep clean, and then probably come out once or twice a month. I can manage keeping on top of it, but it’s not currently in a state that allows that to happen.

I’ve never had any paid help, but see all the time on MN that others do, so I was hoping someone could give me an idea on potential costs, and how it works in terms of organising one?

Help 😂

If you can afford a cleaner, it really is amazing. They are professionals and if you get a good one, they are golden. The day mine comes is always amazing. I went on our local neighbourhood forum and saw someone recommend their current cleaner who was after more clients. I texted, we met up and I showed her what we wanted cleaning and thankfully it all worked out.

For two hours we pay £50 (we live in zone 2, London for reference). She comes every fortnight

I recently got a cleaner. I love coming home the day she has cleaned. She does the kitchen cupboards, dusting, floors and bathrooms and other things. Just means I need to wipe down and hoover when needed, but no proper cleaning. She did a deep clean on the first one so it was up to her standard.

She comes every fortnight, but I am considering her coming weekly. I got her from facebook recommendations.

i did trial one before her, but my house smelt so perfumed, not clean. They also somehow used my house as a drop off and I had 6 people at one point. My cat stank of cleaning chemicals for ages. Just didn’t like the company.

get a cleaner as they are the best. I avoided it for years as it’s only DP and me, but wish I had done it sooner. I do tidy day before they come. But means my house looks great all the time

Thanks for your responses!

@Numberwang66 - we’re based in Cheshire so would expect something similar, or slightly less perhaps.

It will be affordable, and to be honest to save the constant stress of looking at the house being a state, and/or trying to find the energy to sort it, I’d cut back on something else to pay it.

I’ll check local Facebook pages, I hadn’t even considered that!

My cleaners are £20 an hour (I'm in Rutland), they bring all of their own cleaning products, mop, vacuum etc. If I need a deep clean or furniture moved I'll ask, otherwise they do a general clean. They notice if wall lights and skirting boards look a bit dusty though and just include that as a general clean. They won't do ovens, I think it's due to insurance. They're brilliant if you find good ones, I would definitely recommend to make life easier.
