Do people still have net curtains? I don't want them... but...

.. have just moved house (at last!).. got some nice new roman blinds (plain but I like them and they are DS (SN) friends as he likes to hang from curtains!).. but the world and his wife can.. and do!.. see in all the time! As I type in my new (happy sigh) dining room (with computer!).. there have been several passers by pogging in at me..

So I looked on Argos.. they don't even do nets anymore (don't blame them.. I don't actually like or want them!). I found some on another site but they are all horrid.. lacey and yuk.. or voiles which I don't really want.

What can I team with my roman blinds to give us a bit of privacy? Thanks..

Got to go.. power point hissing and buzzing.. eee! Will be back!

Pencilpleats - Thats what I was thinking. What happens when you want to nose look out of the window?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2008 13:05

they come ready cut to size from brume and were easy peasy to put on,no airbubbles -expensive but really worth it.

Anna8888 · 13/06/2008 13:06

I agree Wench, you can often see right into the houses - those huge plate glass front windows looking right into the living room .

I saw a lot of the opaque film in Amsterdam, though.

Yes it does depend on the house. I wouldn't want the film to cover the whole of the window, unless it was a bathroom window.

It's just on the bottom half of our window.

yes can see above it, but people outside are lower down so can't see inside. Our house is right on the pavement so it's necessary to have something covering the windows, but it's still nice to have the light from the top half of the window.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2008 13:28

it'd look good on bottom half of a largish sash window I think...

that sounds really nice belgo - I was thinking about it for our lower part of sash window in front of house -

ChocolateRockingHorse · 13/06/2008 17:33

Hissing power point sorted.. was bit scary hence my absence! Turned out to be faulty extension lead in case any one was wondering if I'd blown up..

Fio my love have I just insulted your house like I accidentally insulted your pram?! Sorry.. I really didn't mean to - I can't even remember noticing your windows (sorry) only your house inside (which I love as you know.)

I like the look of that film stuff for the windows but I'm not sure it would look right as ours is a council house with lots of big windows. I do like voiles but DH doesn't although I think he may have to reconsider..

Thanks for the input

I would get plain voiles, rather than nets as the voiles are much more modern.
If you get the gather at x1.5 it will look best. Anymore adn you'll have loads of pleats which wouldn't look right under the blinds.

moodlumthehoodlum · 17/06/2008 20:36

Lovely shutters? We got some when we moved in, and I love them. I think dh got them here

MrsSprat · 17/06/2008 20:37

You can't twitch film!

A vote for voiles from me, got me some nice modern ones from Allders

JaneHH · 17/06/2008 20:56

Yes the Dutch do go in for massive windows and not shutting the curtains Really, really strangely when you look in through the window in some people's houses here they have the front curtains open but the back ones shut... (not quite sure how that works... showing off the pot plants + flat screen TV to the neighbours but keeping the draught from the garden out?)

You can also get really nice patterned hanging cut-out curtains. Littlelapin also found these which are truly gorge.
