Scrub it with a dishwasher tablet.

MagpiePi · 11/01/2026 10:54

If it is stainless steel and already a bit scratched then I’d use a stainless steel scourer.

ForLoveNotMoney · 11/01/2026 10:55

Dishwasher tablet or something like pink stuff in a tub (the slightly abrasive stuff) works a treat

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 11/01/2026 10:56

Bleach all over with a washing up brush, leave for a few minutes then rinse. Do not turn the tap on high and splash water onto your clothes.

Mumteedum · 11/01/2026 10:57

Those Milton sterilising tablets are good for this too. Basically just bleach in tablet form.

PeonyPatch · 11/01/2026 10:57

Thanks everyone I’ll try a dishwasher tablet and scourer x

It just looks like tea stains in which case hot soapy water and a non-stick scourer should do the trick.

Hot soapy water with or without white vinegar covers most cleaning issues.

Badatmostthings · 11/01/2026 10:58

Bar keepers friend is less abrasive than Pink Stuff paste and worth a try.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 11/01/2026 11:00

Do some hand washing. Once a week I soak school uniform in the sink for an hour or so (filthy kids). The added bonus is that the laundry detergent destains the sink as part of the soaking.

SPQRomanus · 11/01/2026 11:00

Cif cream or Barkeepers Friend on a sponge. Use an old toothbrush to get in the plughole and around joins.

This is what I do too, don’t use a scourer, you’ll spoil the brushed steel finish.

AnSolas · 11/01/2026 11:09

Put the plug in add Coke Cola to cover stain area let it sit for 15-20 min.

Rub the seam areas with a soft sponge to lift up the harder areas.

Re-apply more Coke as needed.

And get people to flush away liquids more offten by running water.

BadgernTheGarden · 11/01/2026 11:12

Any sort of multi-surface cleaner should take it off with scouring sponge. Washing up liquid might even be enough.

Brefugee · 11/01/2026 11:14

also, run water round the sink after tipping tea down the drain.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 11/01/2026 11:16

Coke usually does the trick for me.

Maybeitllneverhappen · 11/01/2026 11:29

Scourers will scratch it and make it worse in future. Do you have any bicarb of soda or baking powder? Dampen stained area, sprinkle bicarb generously and leave for 10-15 minutes. When you go back the powder will be brown and the sink will be clean. Rinse off.

Fiftyandme · 11/01/2026 11:36

Pink stuff or just plain old fashioned bleach

My sink is the bane of my cleaning life , not stainless steel but a resin/granite compound in champagne . Lovely when it's clean though

I'll give the bicarb a go , I have a tub in the cupboard .

pavillion1 · 12/01/2026 18:52

Bar keepers friend

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/01/2026 11:52

Washing soda and boiling water. Also cleans out the plug drain.

PeonyPatch · 13/01/2026 12:29

OK, I’m back. I’ve decided not to use a scourer, as I agree with PP on that it’ll scratch me sink! So shall I soak a bit of dishwasher tablet on top? What should I use to scrub it with? A cloth? A dish sponge?

littlemisssunshine247 · 13/01/2026 12:55

Cillit Bang. Gently scrub with a normal sponge or sink brush.

SPQRomanus · 13/01/2026 14:50

Just use some cif or Barkeepers Friend on a cloth, that'll sort it in no time.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 13/01/2026 14:52

Bicarb on a cloth or nylon scourer should work. Failing that, Barkeeper's Friend.

Oldartist · 14/01/2026 09:08

Barkeepers friend is amazing, also Nannas Secret which is a clay paste, and puts a sort of coating on that stops the stain sticking.
