Hi, I’d love some recommendations for decent bedding.
we’ve always had cheap and cheerful duvet sets from places like dunelm, but I’d like to buy something a bit better quality without going too big budget.
any recommrndations? I know nothing about thread counts etc.

I don't know much about the thread count etc, but the two sets that we have from M&S are amazing. One is 400 thread count and I think it was around £100 in total, with the 4 pillow cases, duvet cover and extra deep bed sheet. The other one we have is the waffle set, again from M&S and they both feel and look so luxurious. I buy a new one every year and it's expensive but it's such a great investment for a good night's sleep.

Thank you, that’s the sort of thing im
looking for price point wise.

Have a look at King of Cotton. They are hotel quality. I have the 300tc

Have a looknat Bedeck, you can pick up some great bargains in their sale. I've got a few sets from there, great quality, wash well and look great too

TK Maxx

I’ve always gone to m&s or John Lewis. 100% cotton ideally Egyptian, I find 400 thread count fine. We found JL sheets were only lasting a couple of years then tearing which isn’t great for how much they are so got a cheaper one on Amazon. BIG MISTAKE. Bobbled after one wash and was horrible to sleep on.

Beachbodyready · 07/01/2026 18:30

I spend a fortune on bedding and I recently bought a couple of M&S duvet covers because I really liked the pattern. The cotton is lovely and are amongst the nicest I own in terms of how the cotton feels against my skin. Thread count is important (you can get good cotton starting at 200 threads) but so are other things such as the type of cotton and how it’s spun. If you see high thread count bedding available cheaply it’s unlikely to be the bargain it appears.

I love cologne & cotton - it is beautiful. A lower price point is the top end of Mitre Linen - what they supply the royal household with.

I use hotel suppliers for sheets, duvets/covers, pillows and pillow cases. (after staying at the rather smart ‘Hope Street’ in Liverpool and peeling back the bedding to find the labels! 😂).

In addition to great quality, all of the sheets have colour coded stitching along the edge. Easy to know the size, easy to work out which are the edges for easy changing.

Why do you need to buy new each year? Mine feel barely used after a year!

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 07/01/2026 18:53

We always wait until bedding is 20% off with the sparks card and buy a set from m and s. Always plain white and the highest thread count we can afford.

slugsinthegarden · 07/01/2026 19:00

Bedding Envy. The absolute best quality and reasonably priced. Got the tip from here a year ago. So pleased.

Roaminginthegloaming · 07/01/2026 19:10

Also (as per the poster above) highly recommend and they supply famous hotels:

Does the OP say she buys every year, or have you misread?

goingtotown · 07/01/2026 19:19

Sheridan bedding, excellent quality.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 07/01/2026 19:19

Another vote for M&S. I buy the brushed cotton sets which has always been good but I actually think the quality has got even better recently! And they wash really well.

No, the second poster in the thread did.
"I buy a new one every year and it's expensive but it's such a great investment for a good night's sleep."
Hers are from M&S which suggests to me they are great quality if they only last a year.

I have John Lewis Egyptian cotton plain white which is lovely and washes really well. I also have a lovely duvet from them too, which makes a big difference. And so does really decent pillows.
