Cleaning Stone / Slate floor

Hi all, any idea on the best options for getting my kitchen floor clean?

Slate tiles have got really engrained dirt...

Hoping to get them looking more like these ones in a less-used corner away from the cooker & sink area...

I've tried scrubbing away with a firm-bristled brush using various standard household cleaners, but little or no effect!

(Sorry, just realised photos didn't post, will try and get them added!)

Have you tried soda crystals? Diluted in hot water and mopped on. Or Nancy Birtwhistle has acid free stone cleaner recipes:

Non-Acidic Stone Cleaners by Nancy Birtwhistle
1. Gentle Cream Cleaner (for Grout, Stone, Slate)

  • Ingredients: 100g bicarbonate of soda, 30ml glycerin, 10ml eco washing-up liquid.
  • Use: Mix to form a cream for cleaning general dirt and grime from stone and grout.
2. "Basic Magic" Non-Acidic Spray (for Stone, Slate, Tiles)
  • Ingredients: 50g washing soda, 200ml boiling water, 10ml eco washing-up liquid, drops of non-acidic essential oil (optional).
  • Method: Dissolve washing soda in hot water, add liquid and oil, pour into a spray bottle.
  • Use: Spray on stone, slate, and tiles, wipe, and rinse with rainwater if possible; it cuts through dirt and grease.
3. Simple Baking Soda Paste
  • Ingredients: Bicarbonate of soda and water.
  • Use: Make a paste for gentle scrubbing on stone and tiles, adding xanthan gum for a stickier texture if needed.
