Daft question about carpet cleaning

One of my things to do before new baby arrives is get some carpets cleaned (yes yes I know a new baby won't know the difference but I've been meaninh to do it for ages and this seems a good deadline to set myself).

My idiotic question is this :

Do we HAVE to move out the furniture from the rooms????

The rooms I want done are hall, stairs and landing where there are 4 book cases which won't be moved to a different place in the house so don't need to be cleaned under etc, plus the Hassle.. Also living room - heavy unit, more bookcases and sofas won't be being rearranged, and in our bedroom - I'm not sure how we'd go about moving our super king bed - we have enough hassle turning the mattress every now and again.

Someone told me that they won't clean around stuff. Is this true? If it is I'm going to cry.

Phone them up and ask them. Some will move the furniture for you. My mum had her carpets cleaned. Then she made the mistake of putting newspaper on the floor whilst they dried because she didn't want to get the carpets dirty. Doh .

Surely if they're big and heavy they haven't been moved, so the carpet underneath is still clean. And if it is dirty who's to know?

I'd leave them there they are and work round them tbh.

The guys that cleaned out carpets moved sofas and chairs around and put foil under the legs for protection while the carpets dried fwiw. But we did have to totally clear all the bits and bobs and couldn't put them back until it was dry - so it was chaos.

One thing I will say is that we were told it would take a couple of hours to dry. It took a couple of days to dry everywhere. (Lounge was in a terrible state.) But it was like getting new carpets back. The transformation was huge.

I have a bissell. The amount of dirt it gets out of my carpets is shocking!
