i am in a stupid quandry.

i have a decent quality sony stereo which i bought about 12 years ago with my first wages for £500. its big. it has 4 speakers. and it sounds great. i recently got it out of the loft with a view to selling it/freecycling it as its probably not even worth 10% of its original value.

but playing cd's on it is so much better than the silly micro system we have that fits so neatly on the shelf.

i cant physically put it anywhere, its currently sitting on my table with the speakers on the floor, taking up space.

i want to keep it so much, but its just too darned big to put anywhere.

sympathies misdee, we have an old welsh dresser bought many moons ago when we had a weeny kitchen with very little storage space. It cost us a small fortune then and has been lovingly polished and sworn at a time or two when toes get stubbed on its mahoosive feet.

We've moved twice since then and its always been a part of our family. we have a big kitchen now which was fitted out with new units and they don't match welshy at all. He looks soooo out of place but I can't bear to part with him.

GrapefruitMoon · 09/06/2008 14:59

Would it fit in your bedroom?

misdee · 09/06/2008 15:05

nope.

cant fit it anywhere.

Can you wall mount the speakers and put the actual stereo system on a shelf?

SoupKitchen · 09/06/2008 15:08

Baby crib - having a loft conversion so no space, but even though no chance of anymore DC, it has to stay
And I am generally not sentimental about things - memory boxes are shoe boxes, and everything else from babyhood has gone.

misdee · 09/06/2008 15:08

yes i could.

but the darned thing wont fit on any of the shelves i have. its heavey. and about 2inches too tall to fit on the big shelves as well.

We have a technics system that dh bought piece by piece saving up from his paper round (he's now 36!)
Its huge
Its outdated
The tape deck doesn't work

but he saved for years (literally) for it and I can't chuck it out.. so it resides in the loft.. with Wilbur my 6 foot teddybear keeping it company.

DirtySexyMummy · 09/06/2008 15:13

Hmm. Could you have a shelf or unit made for it?

misdee · 09/06/2008 15:13

its like this

i literally dont have the space to fit it. we are trying to cut down on stuff with #4 due in november.

My new thing for getting rid of things that you can't bear to part with is to take a photograph of it and then get rid. Then its only taking up space on your hard drive, not in your house.
It's more for clothes that you can't wear any more than for stereos, but thoguht I'd mention it. So you can always look at the photo and have your memories...
