Does anybody have a kettle and toaster and are they worth the money please? I have a kettle and toaster in the lite range in my basket in the most beautiful green but still hovering over the buy button.

The appeal of them being able to be repaired is strong. Do I buy or not??

We bought the classic two slot toaster a year or so ago and love it. Ours is blue. We went with the more expensive one as it can be repaired whereas I don’t think the lite can be. Ours has a very positive dial to select one slice, two or bagel so I don’t know how it could be changed accidentally. Get the colour you love!

I have the Architect 4 slot toaster, the handle failed on one pair of slots just after the guarantee ran out, but the side that works toasts well and the bagel function is useful. Also had a Dualit espresso maker but that failed after about 18 months (fortunately could return to Costco).

My brother bought me a classic 4-slot Dualit toaster 28 years ago, as a housewarming gift. It's still going strong, and looks as good as ever. I love the fact that it's made just down the road from here in a family-owned business, and assembled by an actual person. I don't know if that's still the case, but the label on mine says who built it.

My parents have a toaster from them that has been going for decades so I bought one. It lasted 3 years! The £10 cheapo Argos one that we bought to replace it has lasted longer. Like many things, they look nice but I wouldn't waste my money again.

I suspect they used to be made well and would last whereas now they are built differently!

There’s a ‘Bagel’ button that is easy to press accidentally which makes it only toast one side! Check your manual

Ha I’ve had the wretched thing for over 5 years and it’s been back to Dualit and the plates have been replaced, it’s still complete rubbish, nothing to do with the bagel button, I do know how to work my toaster! I definitely have a Friday version.

I have just replaced my cream 3 slice classic with a chrome 2 slice classic. It’s was 23 years old and just looking a bit shabby. Also have Dualit kettle which is about 4 years old.

I After spending £30 every few years to replace crappy toasters that broke or couldn’t come apart to be fixed I bought a classic 3 slot toaster secondhand for £40.

5 years on, two of the elements have just gone and I’ve just bought the replacement parts for £20. I’d much rather have a workhorse that I know will last and can be repaired than throwing away cheap plastic units that end up in landfill. Plus it’s a design classic and the metal can be cleaned with wire wool and Brasso to bring it back to life. For me, it’s totally worth it.

Thanks for this cleaning tip. DH loves a polishing challenge. He thought he was having a day off tomorrow. Little does he know.

We have them and they are great (although frankly I am sure a cheaper option would have performed equally well). We like the way they look and the fact that they are manufactured in the UK.

Whilst the toasters are still made in the UK, I believe the kettles are now manufactured in China.

PodMom · 01/12/2025 22:49

My first Dualit toaster didn’t work out the box. Dualit werent interested and told me to deal with amazon. Had a battle for months over the refund. So wasn’t impressed at all.

the lever wouldn’t stay down. If you wedged a clothes peg in it stayed down and toasted.

Window cleaner is great for keeping stainless steel clean - I wouldn’t go near it with wire wool in case you scratch it to buggery.

I used the spontex ones that you can buy in the supermarket to take off all the burnt brown marks from the stainless steel, then cleaned it with Brasso. No scratches, it came up beautifully.

The Lite model and kettle are made in China!

yes I think you are right these days. We bought a set years ago and recently bought another toaster (for another house, rather than replacement) and I noticed some rather weak wording on the kettle descriptions designed to imply they were made here without actually stating they are (because, as you say, they’re not!)

CloudPop · 08/12/2025 21:58

Our Dualit toaster made it to about a month after the warranty period and then the outer elements blew. Really disappointing

FlatErica · 08/12/2025 22:01

My toaster and kettle anre also still going strong after 20+ years. And you can get them fixed as well.

Nevergotdivorced · 08/12/2025 22:06

Our Dualit toaster is 30+ years old and still going strong, I bought a Dualit kettle it lasted 2/3 years.

TheDogsMother · 08/12/2025 22:14

I had the classic shaped toaster for years and it worked well. We then bought the Dualit Architect toaster and kettle eight years ago. They look great and (still) going strong.

stringbean · 08/12/2025 22:27

Dualit toaster still going strong after 28 years - dh thought I was bonkers at the time but it’s paid for itself multiple times. I used to be a nurse in London and the wards in the hospital where I worked in the 80s/90s each had a 6-slot Dualit; they were all really old but never went wrong, which was my reason behind buying one. God knows what happened to them when the hospital closed - they probably all got skipped ☹️.
